Mercati di Traiano - Museo dei Fori Imperiali
When we talk about the ancient city of Rome we think that the archeological site is composed only by the Colosseum, Palatine hill and Roman forum. In reality, there is more! The Imperial Forums were part of the complex of buildings of the ancient city, the central area of Rome. In the XX century the area was completely reorganized divinding the famous Roman Forum from the Imperial Forum. Well, we will discover this unknown part during this tour. The Museum shows us all the findings of the area of the Imperial Forum, giving us the opportunity to discuss and learn about this other area, its function and how it developed during the centuries.

Super tour
Outstanding tour guide. Trajan’s market and column The market is considered the oldest shopping mall in history. The upper level of Trajan’s Market was used for offices for the officials in charge of the entire market. The market itself allowed merchants from around the nation to sell their products. These shops were called “tabernae” and there were more than 150 in the entire complex. In the lower part of the market was the so-called Great Hall, 32 meters long and 8 meters high. The hall was possibly used for concerts, speeches or education. According to the book entitled: Description of Trajan’s Column, I have the following to add to this review. The author says Trajan was wise in council, farsighted in policy, sagacious in dealing with men, unsuspicious, generous, a strategist, brave, humane, patient, and tolerant of hunger and thirst. “The Column” was intended as the tomb of the emperor, where his ashes would be laid. The intricately detailed artwork on the column commemorates his main military accomplishment of victory over Decebalus and the inclusion of the Dacian lands in the Roman Empire. It remains debatable whether the column artwork with its intricate details could totally be seen. There were Roman and Greek libraries nearby, where standing on the top floors, one could possibly see some of the scenes of detailed artwork.

A Brilliant Guide Through Rome’s Most Complicated Layers
This is the second time that we take a tour with Vincenzo while being in Rome, and again it was magnificent. This time we visited the museum of the Fori Imperiali and the Trajan's Market. Absolutely GREAT tour! Even though we were warned that this tour is “advanced level” with history folded over itself like a Roman lasagna, Vincenzo explained everything so clearly that we were actually delighted to realize we were following along—layer after layer! It is such a gift to get to know Rome with a professional like him. We aim to take a tour with him every time we come to Rome (if we are lucky and he is available) until we see it all! Thank you Vincenzo for guiding us so brilliantly! Fino alla prossima volta!

Best of the best!
Excellent tour! We enjoyed every minute of it. Even the 4 kids in our party had fun! Vincenzo was professional, funny and had a tons of knowledge/ information that he communicated in a very entertaining way. My 14 years old son said:" I wish my next history teacher would be like him!" Thank you for everything!

Amazing Vincenzo
Vincenzo really made this tour come alive! We had the best time with him and it’s an experience. We will never forget. I highly recommend this tour, especially for those who have been to Rome a few times and have seen most of the more famous sites.

Why this scores 75
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets cost?
+
Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 38 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets?
+
Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Tour - Museum of the Imperial Forums in the Trajan Markets start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
