About this experience

Your driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Barcelona at a convenient time of your choice. Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in Catalonia. It is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat. You will start your day 4,000 feet above sea level, in the spectacular Montserrat National Park. In this area, you will have the chance to explore some of the beautiful nature trails, admire the jaw-dropping 360° views of the countryside below, and take amazing pictures. While at Montserrat, you can also visit the Benedictine Santa Maria monastery. This fantastic display of gothic architecture is over 1,000 years old and can be found nestled halfway up the mighty Montserrat mountain. If you are lucky enough to be visiting Montserrat on a weekday, then you can sit in on a performance from the Escolania all-boys choir. This is the oldest boy's choirs in the whole of Europe, and a great tradition in this area of Spain.

What you'll see and do

  1. Montserrat

This mountain is home to one of the most important religious sites in Spain. A residence for the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, the mountain is visited not only by those seeking spiritual rewards but also by those looking for one of the most spectacular views of Catalonia. The history of Montserrat goes back to 880 when a group of shepherd children saw a bright light descending from the sky in the Montserrat mountains. The monks are also the owners of the Publicacions de l'Abadia de Montserrat, a publishing house that continues to operate today. It is the oldest press in the world, having published its first book in 1499. Music lovers will appreciate L'Escolania Choir, a boys' choir of sopranos and altos based at the Benedictine abbey. They perform every day at the Basilica of Montserrat.

Expensive cab ride

This was no "private tour" This was an extremely expensive cab ride to Monserrat The driver was punctual and pleasant. Gave us water when we entered the cab. Since there was not one with him I thought our private guide would meet us in Monserrat. We were dropped off by the driver and told to "just walk in". No tour guide, no tickets to enter the monastery...nothing. All we did was walk along the outside on our own and had to pay another 32E to ride the rail to the top only to find out that options were to go on hiking trails. This tour was a total waste of $700.

Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Barcelona.

How much does Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat cost?

+

Prices start at $71 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Barcelona usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Barcelona is not rushed.

Is Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 52 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Barcelona, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat?

+

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Barcelona can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Barcelona and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tour from Barcelona to Monserrat start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Barcelona within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Barcelona?

+

Barcelona's Gaudí sites are capacity-limited and the official timed tickets go first, so most of the market is resellers with a guide attached. We weight those heavily on whether the guide is an architecture specialist. Beyond Gaudí, the tapas crawls in Gràcia and the Montserrat day trips carry the highest rankings in the city. On Outty we rank every Barcelona experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Gràcia Tapas and Vermouth Crawl, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel & Cliff Jump from Barcelona, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel, Cliff Jump & lunch Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Barcelona?

+

May, June, September and October. Sagrada Família light is best mid-morning. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Barcelona?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
