    Must do

Bobby was excellent, due to the weather cruise ran longer but worth every minute of it!! Highly recommend!

    Not worth it

The weather wasn’t awesome but the long ride in the Mercedes van was tiring and uncomfortable. Bouncing around in the car for 6-7 hours was not fun. The cruise which we paid extra for was spectacular but this trip was way too expensive for the day. The driver was nice but told us nothing about the country we were driving through. Not worth it. Fly up if you want to see Bay of Isles

Mode of transport not worth the price

For a tour for 2, which was expensive, I expected a decent car, because there were a lot of miles to cover. Instead we had a 12 seater minibus and I expect Viator to refund some of the cost as this is not good enough. Had I wanted a minibus I would have booked on a tour that included more (e.g. any tickets or refreshments prepaid) for less money. We did touch on this with our driver who said he was surprised but told to take the minibus. He did have water for us. Our driver Greg was great and did his best (the weather was bad) to take us to interesting sites and was keen to know what interested us so he could tailor the tour to suit us, which was appreciated. It was disappointing that because of the weather there were no trips out around the islands that we had wanted, but that isn’t anyone’s fault. He was thoughtful and would do food/drink/loo/souvenir shopping stops and to make the most of the time we were happy to keep these short. In conclusion, check what vehicle you are getting for your money, check the weather forecast in advance, and work out at least a couple of things that are important for you to see in good/bad weather to make the most of your day. Your driver will have helpful suggestions of things you don’t know about, but it helps you to have ideas in advance.

    Exceptionally Excellent

Our private tour of the Bay of Islands from Auckland was all we hoped for and more! Our praise is 100% credited to our outstanding guide, Mike! We had the great fortune to not only have him pick us up at the airport, but also be assigned to be our guide/driver the next day for the tour. Mike was a great driver and a super human being with a great personality and loads of information that we found very interesting. He did everything possible to insure our comfort and enjoyment. Indeed he had to go "above and beyond" because one of us left our "purse" behind at a refreshment stop and did not realize that we had done so for several hours until we reached where we were to board our boat for a cruise of the islands. Mike offered to drive all the way back and get it while we were on the cruise, but luckily his sharp thinking and quick solutions allowed him to call the exact stop we had made and discovered that the owner of the cafe had found our lost item and would hold it for us until we could return. We didn't miss anything on the tour and Mike made us so happy and relieved to retrieve the purse with all our money, credit cards, etc in tact. We enjoyed the day with Mike and commend him highly. He is an asset to his company for sure. Mike gets a 10+++ out of 10 rating and 5+ stars!

Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.

How much does Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland cost?

    +

Prices start at $194 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland take?

    +

Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.

Is Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.8/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tour: Bay of Islands Day Trip from Auckland start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Auckland?

    +

On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Auckland?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Auckland?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
