What you'll see and do

  1. Abu Simbel Temple

On the short walk to the temple entrances, your guide will explain the history of the site, including details of the UNESCO-led relocation of the entire cliff face to higher ground, and how the temples were discovered by accident in 1813. Due to the large number of visitors to Abu Simbel, guides are not permitted inside either the Great Temple of Ramses II or the smaller Temple of Hathor. However, by using photos and illustrations, your guide will explain to you the structures and their interior artworks. You will then have free time to enter the temples and explore them at your leisure. After visiting the temples there may be time for a short visit to the small visitor's center which documents the UNESCO relocation project, before returning to the minibus for the drive back to Aswan. The drive is approximately three hours each way.

Leave as late as possible to miss the crowds

So its three hours each way to drive - but seriously it is worth it! My original departure was 4am but after talking to the company it isn't necessary to leave that early unless you have something planned for the afternoon. I got to sleep in a little, we left at 8:45am which meant we missed the crowds - I literally had the temple to myself for 30 minutes before anyone else showed up! My guide was Magdelena - very knowledgeable and friendly.

Response from the operator: Thanks for choosing being with us and delighted we had delivered to you the experience you wanted. looking forward to serving you again in the near furture.

Great destination Poor Service

Our guide was not very knowledgeable and was unable to answer our questions clearly, always giving blurry answers. Guide and driver were not very welcoming either. I’d recommend choosing another tour agency to go to Abu Simbel. And make sure to leave Aswan at 3:45am and not later (they’ll try to push the time many many times) because the earlier you get there the least tourists.

Response from the operator: Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on your recent experience. We are sorry to hear that you did not receive the best services from the tour guide and we will ensure that this does not reoccur again. The departure time is based on the tourist police instructions and to ensure the road safety needed for this trip. Again we apologize for any inconvenience and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Well Worth It!!!

Before heading to Egypt, I was unable to secure a flight to Abu Simbel for the time I would be in Aswan. However, I was determined to not miss visiting the iconic temples in Abu Simbel! Once in Egypt, I was able to arrange a private tour which included a ride in a minibus from Aswan to Abu Simbel as well as a tour outside of the temples. At $120.00, the cost for the minibus tour was less than one half of the cost for the tour with flight to Abu Simbel. The tour included five people and we had an early start from our hotel. The minibus was comfortable and the tour guide provided a nice overview of what we would be experiencing at Abu Simbel. The minibus ride also allowed me to enjoy the scenery along the way including desert areas and Nubian communities. Once we arrived the tour guide provided a great summary of the history of the temples and also helped us run the “gauntlet” of the bazaar once we were leaving the temple area. Note that tour guides are not allowed inside of the temples; visitors are able to explore the interiors on their own. Both the drive to and from Abu Simbel was smooth and I felt safe throughout the tour. For those visitors who don’t mind an approximately three hour road trip, this is a great option that allows for a lovely scenic journey and even a little nap, if necessary!

The place itself is amazing and a must do however it was horribly expensive with this company. We had done other tours in egypt that were amazing and less than half the price with guides that were out going and extremely educated on diverse topics. On this tour I felt like we go there, we looked around and went back. On the other tours at least they gave us water, food, and pleasant conversation. I would book once getting there unless you want to throw away a lot of money! The worst thing is after paying all that money, Then they asked for a tip after. I would not go with this company, but I would definitely go to Abu Simbel.

We were met up at the train station at Aswan and immediately felt well taken care of. We then travelled in a mini bus in a convoy to Abu Simbel, which took three hours one way. The guide spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable and gave us the historical background on the Aswan Dam and Abu Simbel. The ride thorough the Sahara desert was an experience in it self. The Abu Simbel temple was magnificent! We had a tight schedule and needed to catch our train to go back to Cairo and the guide and the driver made every effort to make sure we made it on time. The tour was all in all very well organised and we highly recommend it!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Aswan.

How much does Private Tour: Abu Simbel by Minibus from Aswan cost?

+

Prices start at $68 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Aswan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tour: Abu Simbel by Minibus from Aswan take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Aswan is not rushed.

Is Private Tour: Abu Simbel by Minibus from Aswan worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 42 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Aswan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour: Abu Simbel by Minibus from Aswan?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tour: Abu Simbel by Minibus from Aswan suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Tour: Abu Simbel by Minibus from Aswan?

+

Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Aswan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Aswan and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tour: Abu Simbel by Minibus from Aswan start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Aswan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Aswan?

+

On Outty we rank every Aswan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 or 2 or 1 Nights Mighty Nile Felucca Adventure, 4-Day 3-Night Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor&Abu Simbel+Balloon, 4-Day Nile Cruise sails Aswan to Luxor&Abu Simbel.Hot air Balloon. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Aswan?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Aswan?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
