Disappointed- and out cab costs.

I made reservations. We were to meet the guide at a train station, We took a cab which cost about $25.00 USD. I was called and they had no guide. We agreed to wait another hour for them to find a guide. An hour and fifteen minutes later, I got another phone call. No guide, and we were out another $25..00 for another cab ride back to our hotel. Only compensation for the cab rides was a credit for another tour. I don’t know if I got that or not, but if I have to use it in Tokyo, there is no point as we live in Florida.

Response from the operator: Hi Sara, I completely understand your frustration - making the effort to get to the meeting point, only to be left without a host, is unacceptable and not the experience we ever want to deliver. Please know that we’re reviewing this situation thoroughly to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We also recognize that offering future credit may not be meaningful in this moment, and we're actively working on handling situations like this better. We genuinely hope you'll allow us the opportunity to make things right in the future. Warm regards, Ruslan and the City Unscripted team

Best way to see Tokyo for first timers!

We visited Tokyo in January 2025 and booked a private tour with Mari. She was amazing! Super friendly, energetic and knowledgeable. We would not have experienced a fraction of Tokyo in the short time that we had if not for Mari. She was fantastic with the kids and I would highly recommend booking a tour. Thanks again Mari, we had the beat time! Regards Rebecca 🌸

Response from the operator: Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for your glowing review! We’re thrilled to hear that Mari’s friendly energy and deep knowledge helped you make the most of your time in Tokyo, especially with the kids. It’s wonderful to know she made your experience so memorable. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon!

Fabulous tour with Tomo of both traditional and modern Tokyo!

Tomo was fabulous and her English was great! We already saw a lot in Tokyo before we met up with her, but she customized a tour for us ahead of time and showed us a part of Tokyo that is less well known. She took great care to make sure that we maximized our time to explore different places. We started out in Ueno and she brought us to Ueno market and explained what Japanese families do to prepare for new years which is the biggest holiday in Japan. We then walked through Ueno park and made our way to Tokugawa shrine. She explained to us the traditions of how to pray in the shrine and also we bought some good luck amulets and got our fortunes. After the park, Tomo made a special reservation at a green tea shop where they demonstrated how to whisk matcha properly and she also showed us the correct way to drink green tea! After walking through the Yanaka cemetery, she took us to Yanaka Ginza which was very quaint and one the highlights of the tour! Lots of small shops and places to eat (don’t forget to bring cash). Yanaka is an older part of Tokyo - very suburban traditional feel. Lastly, she took us to Akihabara which is known for its electronics, anime and video games. A perfect ending as our son wanted to play those claw games to win some Japanese toys! Overall a wonderful experience of both traditional and modern Tokyo. The 4 hours with Tomo flew by. Highly recommended!

Response from the operator: It sounds like you had the perfect mix of exploring both the traditional and modern sides of the city! Ueno, Yanaka, and Akihabara are all such unique places, and it's wonderful that Tomo tailored the tour to your interests, from the New Year's traditions to the matcha tea experience. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for more adventures in the future!

The best tour and guide!!

This was a wonderful experience for my family. Hiroko was our fabulous tour guide. She is the seriously the best and I would highly recommend requesting her. She met my family in our hotel lobby, showed us how to use the train system, customized our day for us based on our requests. Instead of trying to navigate through Tokyo oursleves, she provided a fun day for all of us to just enjoy and take in all the joys of this fascinating city. She was so informative and explained things to us with a little humor so the kids really connected with her. By the end of the tour, we felt we had known her for years. Hiroko became part of the family! I would highly recommend this activity especially one of the first few days of your trip so you can get acclimated with city. Thank you Hiroko for the best day in Tokyo. We miss you and hope to see you again soon. Btw, she is also an excellent, knowledgeable shopping guide if you want to have that kind of experience too.

Response from the operator: We’re absolutely delighted to hear that your family had such a fantastic time with Hiroko. It sounds like she went above and beyond to ensure you felt at ease navigating Tokyo while tailoring the experience to your requests. Her skills as a shopping guide are just the icing on the cake for anyone looking to add a little retail adventure to their tour. Thank you so much for your heartwarming review!

Amazed by the amount of fun we had.

Our guide Tarek was so knowledgeable friendly and fun. He did a great job getting us acclimated to the city. He taught us how to use the metro system, took us to all the anime sites and gave us the history of the city. It was an amazing experience.

Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.

How much does Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized cost?

+

Prices start at $21 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.

Is Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tokyo Family Tour with a Local – 100% Personalized start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tokyo?

+

Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tokyo?

+

Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tokyo?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
