Great trip
As a couple there were so many positives, the driver, accommodation, sights, meals, and the company of fellow passengers, there is no way to put a dollar value on that.

The high point of my trip to Australia!
My friend and I booked a custom 3-day tour that allowed us to experience the Great Ocean Road and Grampians National Park. Our guide James made sure we got to see all the highlights. He was extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the beautiful scenery and trails as well as life in Australia in general. We appreciated the care James took to set expectations when recommending lodging and places for meals which were always excellent. I got to experience many things during my time in Australia but the tour with James was the high point for me. Would highly recommend this company.
Response from the operator: H Erica, Thank YOU so much for a great 3 days. It didn't even feel like work. You and Swati were great company and I loved showing you some of my favourite places in Victoria. I hope you haven't been too affected by the big freeze in USA since you have gotten back. All the best for your future travels. Never.Stop.Exploring. James :) :)

Beautiful Sights and the BEST way to travel
My family had the pleasure of joining James on a private 3 day Great Ocean Road tour in April 2021. James was easy to communicate with before the trip (I had a million questions) and made great recommendations for places to stay. He picked us up at our hotel in Melbourne, the car was spotless with plenty of space for my family of 4, and off we went. For three days James took us along the beautiful Great Ocean Road. This was the best way to travel! My partner got to enjoy the views instead of having to focus on driving. James knew all the good places to stop for hikes as well as the best sightseeing spots and even arranged our helicopter tour bookings at the 12 Apostles. He was also full of information about the area, which we wouldn’t have gotten had we driven the road without a guide. My 11 & 13 year olds were less than thrilled to learn our holiday plan was to drive along a road and look at things but between the helicopter ride, kangaroo tour and treetop adventure they had plenty of fun! One of the best parts of this tour was that after we made the decision to book, I didn’t really have to make any other decisions the entire trip…we just followed the itinerary James had mapped out for us! If you are considering seeing the Great Ocean Road, I highly recommend James and Great Ocean Road Tours!

What a trip!
We were fortunate to have 3 days to see this fabulous road. Most, it would appear rush down in one day. I just don’t get the point in doing that. Even our 3 days, were packed full of sightseeing. Up early visiting places and often not back until the late afternoon. The tour was Well organised, had good variety of things to see/do and was well tailored to our interests and fitness level. James our guide and driver for the 3 days was a local, which really took the experience to the next level.

Well orchestrated tour for our silver wedding anniversary
Well after 25 years of putting up with me, I suppose I had to reward my wife somehow. So rather than buying the usual piece of overpriced designer rubbish, I thought I would treat her to an experience. And what an experience it was! James initially guided me through the booking process. He didn’t push me into the 3 day tour. In fact he initially recommend the 2 day tour, but given we are slightly older, we wanted to take it a bit slower, plus we had a whole week in Melbourne, so we decided upon the 3 day tour. James’ flexibility and excellent driving skills, ensured we avoided the crowds at most stops. It appears that most people visit the road in one day and congregate in certain areas at certain times of the day. So we avoided that heavy flow, which meant when we arrived at certain attractions, we were the only tourists there, which made some spots very tranquil, which is how they should be seen in the first place. A lovely tour and thankfully my wife was both surprised and very happy with her anniversary gift experience. Sadly though, she might think this is how every anniversary will be each year from now on. I guess I’ll have to put my thinking cap on for that.

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Melbourne.
How much does Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $700 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Melbourne usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour take?
+
Plan for about 72 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Melbourne is not rushed.
Is Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Melbourne, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 144 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 72-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Melbourne can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Melbourne and add a light layer if any part of the 72-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Three Day Great Ocean Road Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Melbourne within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Melbourne?
+
On Outty we rank every Melbourne experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Melbourne: Yarra Valley Wine, Gin, Whisky and Chocolate Tour, Yarra Valley Wine Tour w Exclusive Gin, Cider & Chocolate Tasting, Yarra Valley Wine Tour from Melbourne - Choc, Gin & Good Times. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Melbourne?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Melbourne?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
