    About this experience

Sometimes the best way to get closer is to get away. There’s no better place to spend quality time together than Hawaii’s North Shore, and you haven’t seen the island until you’ve seen it by horseback, riding through the forest trails and overlooking the ocean. This is a unique and unforgettable experience, far away from all the noise of the regular tourist spots. You’ll see a side of Oahu that many don’t know about and enjoy a private picnic together, complete with delicious sandwiches on fresh homemade bread, fruit, and a bottle of sparkling cider. The highlight of the ride is a sweeping panoramic view of the ocean from our lookout point, where you can take in the full scale and beauty of the island. (If you can take your eyes off each other, that is.) If you're comfortable on horses and would like to upgrade to an advanced ride, just let us know!

    Lovely experience at Gunstock

We had a great time on our ride. My husband and I did the Sweetheart ride. I hadn’t been on a horse in 30 years but the wranglers do a job of making it easy for you and the horses are super laid back. We rode up to a beautiful spot, had lunch then rode back. I recommend this ranch.

    Stunning beginner friendly private ride!

We had the best time on our Sweetheart ride with Connor! My best friend and I decided to opt for the private tour and it was absolutely worth the money. Connor was so friendly and knowledgeable about riding and as newbies we felt really comfortable. The trail was incredibly scenic, photo worthy and lush. The property is huge and beautiful. At the top of the trail we had a private picnic at an ocean lookout with a beautiful banyon tree with a swing. The ride back had an ocean view. We felt so comfortable with Conor and on our horses, I want to bring friends back soon. We also somehow lost our Tesla key on the ride and Conor went back and somehow found it on the trail for us so he’s our hero ◡̈ Thank you for a special experience!

    Beautiful and Fun Experience!

We enjoyed this personalized horseback experience. The horses were lively and lovely, our guide, Connor, was charming and helpful, the views were gorgeous, and the picnic “Sweetheart” lunch was so nice!! This was a special treat and exceeded the typical trail ride by far. So glad this ranch operates as it does and allows guests to have such an excellent experience!

    Fun, Comfortable, Scenic ride

My girlfriend and I booked an experience back in October. We drove a very beautiful route from Honolulu to the northern part of the island where this was located. On arrival we were greeted by very nice staff who helped us get checked in (including a friendly chicken!) and gave us a brief rundown of the experience. After a short wait, we were introduced to our wrangler Connor. Connor was our guide up the mountain and was very knowledgeable about riding, and personable to talk to about pretty much anything, he was great company. The ride up the mountain took about an hour and was very manageable. Both my girlfriend and I's horses were well trained. After about an hour of riding, we dismounted our horses and were provided a nice picnic meal with a good view of the town down below as well as the water. There was a plentiful amount of food/snacks and a variety of drinks, so we had leftovers. When we were done eating, we were assisted by Connor back onto our horses and we were given the opportunity for some pictures. Afterwards we began our decent back down to the ranch. The ride down was maybe a little quicker than the ride up, and was still a lot of fun. We both had a really great time together and would highly recommend this experience for anyone interested in riding horses in the beautiful Hawaiian weather! And if you're lucky, you'll get Connor as your wrangler/guide 🤠

Response from the operator: Mahalo for your thoughtful review! We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your horseback experience here at Gunstock Ranch with the chicken, horses, and our incredible staff. Hopefully, we will see you around these parts again!

Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oahu.

How much does Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride cost?

    +

Prices start at $223 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oahu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oahu is not rushed.

Is Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 89 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oahu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride?

    +

Around 31 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oahu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oahu and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Sweetheart Horseback Ride start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oahu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Oahu?

    +

On Outty we rank every Oahu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Oahu: Full or Half Day Grand Circle Island Tour, Oahu Small-Group Circle Island Tour with Turtle Snorkeling, Pearl Harbor Remembered Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Oahu?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Oahu?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
