    A fantastic family experience

We had the most wonderful day at Surin Islands with Ariel. Our children are 9 and 11 and this was their first time snorkelling so we chose a private longtail tour so that we would have more flexibility. During the day we stopped at 3 separate snorkelling sites and two beaches and our schedule was brilliantly planned so that we didn’t encounter many other tourists at any of the sites. The islands are spectacularly beautiful and we all saw a great variety of fish and coral. Ariel was so kind throughout the whole day and made every part of the trip smooth and enjoyable. I would really recommend this trip to anyone, but particularly those with children wanting to avoid a busy boat.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to review your trip to the Surin Islands with our team. It sounds as if you had an amazing day. I hope we will be seeing you again very soon.

    Surin Islands Day Trip

Janie was so great! Super friendly, knowledgeable and made sure we knew exactly where to go to see amazing coral and sealife either completely by ourselves or with very few others. Highly recommend this day trip!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to review your trip to the Surin Islands with Jane. It is fantastic to see her name mentioned. She is a fairly recent addition to our team, but her enthusiasm, local knowledge and excellent customer service skills are already shinning through! I am very happ to know that she was key to helping you enjoy your trip. We will look forward to seeing you again soon.

    Tour not to be missed!

We did the Surin Islands with private longboat tour while staying at Khao Lak. Discovery travel has been amazing since we booked this tour along with several transfers in Thailand. The planning, booking and then experience with this company has been of a very high standard. Very professional, informative and excellent communication - with messages being sent a head of time to ensure our experience was seamless and stress free. The tour to Surin Islands is not to be missed. The snorkelling was exceptional and our guides made sure we had an awesome unforgettable experience. Our guide Beny was lovely and took great care of us. Making sure we had plenty of time to relax, snorkel and take in the best of the Surin islands. Amazing lunch included. We highly recommend this company and especially this particular tour which is up there with the best we have done!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this fantastic review Vanessa! It is great know that Beny and the rest of the team were able to help make your trip to the Surin Islands and your time in Khao Lak special. I hope we will be seeing you again soon for some more amazing experiences.

Beautiful Surin Islands on Valentine's Day!

We had such a wonderful day with our lovely private guide Goff. Everything ran like clockwork, from our hotel pick up, how he looked after us at the ferry port taking care of collecting our equipment and paying fees, and of course guiding us on our private longtail boat trip. We transferred from the ferry to our private longtail at Moken Village, then we visited 3 different snorkelling spots during the day. Goff was very knowledgeable about the area and the history, showed us the beautiful corals and initially came in the water with us to make sure we knew what fish we were looking at. We were supplied with a simple, but delicious lunch on North Surin Island, and my gluten free needs were well catered for. We then had a chance to relax on Ao Chong Khad beach, before carrying on with our snorkelling adventure. Goff was very responsive to our needs, including the departure back from the ferry terminal. As it was Valentine's Day and we'd booked a table at the hotel's special event, we didn't need to stay for the food provided by Wow Andaman. Our only negative comments: we took towels with us from the hotel as the tour operator told us they weren't supplied, but they actually were! As an older lady with an old knee injury, I found climbing into and out of the longtail boat at each snorkel stop quite challenging. The ladders are quite basic, but my husband and Goff were there to help me.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this amazing review! It really does sound like you had a fantastic time in Surin with Goff. A perfect valentines day! It is a shame that you found the ladders a bit challenging, unfortunately this can often be an issue with longtail boats. But I am glad that Goff was able to help out. I hope we will be seeing you again very soon.

    Surin Island Private Longtain

We booked the Surin Island Private Tour through Discovery Travel. Communication was good from start to finish. This trip involves going on the shared speedboat out to Surin and then swapping to the private longtail. Our guide Ya Ya was brillant. She ensured we got good spots on the speedboat (as it was rough). The longtail boat wasn't fancy, very basic. Once there we opted not to visit the village as we wanted to maximise our snorkeling time. Our guide picked good spots away from the crowed groups. Our only disappoinment on this trip was lunch. Firstly we were taken back to the crowed beach that had all the boats (and fuel smells). So not good for swimming. Secondly lunch itself wasn't good (compared to other day trips we did). For the high price of this day it would have been nice to go to a private beach away from the masses and I felt the food could have been a higher standard given the price point (7000TBH per person). Overall a good day, but I think value for money is a little questionable. Having said that, the snorkeling was brilliant in all 3 locations, so that was a big plus.

Response from the operator: Thank you for writing this detailed review. I am glad to see that you had a good day snorkeling in the Surin Islands with Yaya. I am sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the lunch. Unfortunately, the National Park insists that all tours eat at the National Park buffet. We generally try to time our arrival at the buffet so that there is less people. However, as I am sure you appreciate, during busy periods such as over Easter and Songkran this can be tricky. I will of course pass your comments on to the National Park, and discuss it with our team to see if we can find a solution. With regards to the cost, the majority of the cost is due to the private longtail boat, private minibus, and private guide. On a normal trip, these costs would be shared by at least 10 people. Naturally, doing it as a private trip does push the price per person up a bit. But, I hope that the additional flexibility, and possibility to avoid thr crowds during the trip helped to make up for the cost. We always strive to improve our service and greatly appreciate all feedback. I hope we will be seeing you again soon for another trip.

Is Private Surin Islands Longtail Boat Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". What should I bring or wear?

How many days do you need in Khao Lak?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
