About this experience

Wander cobblestoned streets and explore houses and shops, baths, bakeries and more just as they were 2,000 years ago. Let our expert guides bring the ruins spectacularly to life, and learn what life was like in antiquity as you embark on an incredible journey back in time to the heyday of ancient Rome. We’ll take care of private transportation from your hotel in Naples and between the sites too, meaning that you’ll be travelling in comfort!

What you'll see and do

  1. Archaeological Park of Pompeii

You will discover many aspects of the Roman lifestyle: you will see the amazing infrastructures, fruit of the renowned ingenuity of the Romans, the incredibly modern thermal baths, the shops, the villas of the rich as well as the houses of the poor. You will be visiting ancient houses where you will admire the spectacular paintings commissioned by the owners, explore the ruins of temples, such as the one dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Isis and finally visit the Forum, heart of the political and administrative activity. You will also explore the buildings where the Romans used to enjoy their free time, such as the famous baths or the restaurants, where people were able to order from a menu painted on the wall.

  2. The smaller nearby town of Herculaneum, a beach resort for the ancient Roman elites that was according to tradition linked to the great mythological hero Hercules, was also engulfed by the volcano’s ash cloud. Herculaneum was a residential hub with superb dwellings – such as the House of Neptune and Amphitrite with its pristine mosaics, or the Villa of the Papyri – more than make up for it. The tour includes the Thermopolium (fast-food restaurant), the Temple of Augustali, the Thermal Baths, the House of Neptune and Amphitrite, the House of the Bel Cortile, and the ancient beach where the remains of Herculaneum’s victims were unearthed.

Best tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum ever

Amazing tour. Guide was very informative and knowledgeable. He answered all our questions. He also knew the best times to be at certain places so it was not too busy so we did not have to miss anything. In fact we saw more then the last time we were there

Response from the operator: Hi Rfamily! Thank you very much for the review! We are glad you enjoyed your tour with us and managed to see more things! We are looking forward into having you with us on your next trip to Italy! All the best, Sofia

Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.

How much does Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car cost?

+

Prices start at $576 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car take?

+

Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.

Is Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5.5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car?

+

Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour by Car start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Naples?

+

On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Naples?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Naples?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
