The building was later dedicated to the Apostle John and became one of the 7 churches of the Revelation. " There is a reconstructed Egyptian statue outside but the actual remains are right next to it. I was very impressed to see something from Egypt. It's really a beautiful piece of work. The statue does not have a head part, but you can easily see on the outside of the statue that he was wearing the headrest-style thing that the pharaohs wore. There are no words to say about it anyway, I am astonished at how they built such a high church 2000 years ago. really important work. there is nothing like it.

    4. Izmir Bergama Museum

In Bergama, which is one of the earliest discovered ancient cities among the archaeological settlements in Anatolia, the first research studies began in 1865 as a result of the high reliefs of the Zeus Altar within the Byzantine wall in the Acropolis. Between 1878-86, these studies were turned into official excavations by C. Humann and A. Conze. A small warehouse museum was established in the garden of the excavation house in order to preserve the artifacts unearthed after these excavations. Between 1900-13, excavations were carried out in the Acropolis by W. Dörpheld, H. Hepding, and P. Schatzwann. Due to the increase in the artifacts unearthed as a result of the excavations in the Asclepion as well as the excavations carried out in the Acropolis, the existing building was insufficient and a new museum building was needed.

Pergamum was famous before, during and after Greek & Roman rule.

Pergamum was capital of the Kingdom in 281–133 BC. It was transformed into one of the major cultural cities of the Greek world. Many remains of its monuments can still be seen and especially the Pergamum Altar. The city was built on a series of terraces. The Acropolis emulated that of Athens and the Library was 2nd only to that of Alexandria (Egypt). Trajan reconstructed the city when it became allied with Rome and Hadrian declared it a metropolis. One of the seven churches of Peter is located there.

    Amazing sites & fun guides

Super tour with Castle Travel! Our guide Yeliz took us from Izmir to the three main sites at Pergamon: the Asklepion, the Red Basilica, and the Akropolis. She had all kinds of interesting stories to tell about each of the sites and really brought them to life for us. I would go on a tour with her again in a second. She was great to hang out with, as were our guide-in-training, Mustafa and our driver Umet. Pickup was right on time. Yeliz knew some great local places to stop for lunch and tea, and clued us in regarding local culture as well as the amazing sites of Pergamon. Highly recommended!

Response from the operator: Your pleasure on our services quite makes us, please. If we could make you happy, this emotion is an indescribable gift for us! Thank you very much. And, we hope that you will come to Turkey and we will see you here again and will take you on another trip!
