Too loud Can’t sleep at all Feel so tired in the morning
Response from the operator: Dear reviewers, We are so sorry about your experience in Sapa. We had checked and did not find your name on our booking list You can check the supplier's contact on your voucher to get their support Please help us check with your supplier to leave a right review For more information, we always inform the customers in advance when we get their bookings: train in Vietnam is belong to government. We operate nicer cabins for tourists. It is a traditional transfer, not really modern as it in Europe. It is not as quiet as sleeper bus but safer, an unique local experience. You should consider if you are elderly or have sleep issue. Also you should arrange your own transfer from Lao Cai Train station to Sapa town in advance since the train arrives early in the morning and it takes you about 1 hour to get to the centre. Best regards, Luong

Beware
Viator voucher is not valid for train. You get your train tickets thru a travel agency. It was very frustrating that it was not mentioned on viator that the voucher they gave was not valid to get on train. Spent about an hour trying get train tickets thru the veitnam travel agency. Was not happy with thus process at all

Pass the iconic Hanoi Train Street on your way to Sapa.
A unique experience! 8 hours from Hanoi to Sapa, passing the iconic Hanoi train street. Ditching the bus/limo ride offered by travel services? Sleeper train SP3/SP7 is worth it! Clean 4-person compartment, tickets sent via WhatsApp ahead of time. Kudos to customer support for cancelling dual booking, refund, and great communication . Complimentary snacks + water, but grab dinner before boarding – no canteen on train!
Response from the operator: Thanks so much for your feedback We are so happy that you enjoyed the Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return Thanks again for joining us. Have a nice time in Vietnam! Best regards, Luong

Wouldn’t do overnight train again
Travelled on overnight train to and from Hanoi-Sapa with teens who are both over 6 foot. Damitrans cabin better option as longer beds. Train was surprisingly noisy and rattly. Also wasn’t expecting it to be so rocky, definitely not the gentle rocking others described. Be aware there are no lifts or ramps at train stations so you’ll need to carry suitcases up couple flights stairs. Interesting experience but wouldn’t do overnight train again.

Really cute cosy cabin....
Really cute cosy cabin. However if you want any sleep don't book this. Expected to be able to get some sleep. The noise was so loud even with ear plugs and noise cancelling headphones we couldn't sleep. It stunk of cigarettes. The toilet didn't flush. Expensive for a night counting down until it was over. Not sure if it was because of our location on the train but beds 25+26 were not good.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback, Grace Morrall-Kelly Train in Vietname is belong to the government. We operate nicer cabins for tourists. It is a traditional transfer, not really modern as it in Europe. It is not as quiet as sleeper bus but safer, an unique local experience. Smoking is not allowed inside the cabin, some people smoke outside the cabin so you can smell cigarrette. We clean toilet before the trip and when the train stops at each station. We are so sorry about the experience. Thank you for your understanding. We will note and improve it next time. Hope you have a good time in Sapa and in Vietnam Best regards, Luong

Why this scores 35
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hanoi.
How much does Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return cost?
+
Prices start at $220 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hanoi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return take?
+
Plan for about 16 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hanoi is not rushed.
Is Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 35 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.4/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Hanoi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 16-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hanoi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hanoi and add a light layer if any part of the 16-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Overnight Train Hanoi To Sapa Or Return start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hanoi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hanoi?
+
On Outty we rank every Hanoi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi with Tam Coc or Trang An & Mua Cave, Ha Giang Loop Tour 4 Days 3 Nights with Ha Giang Vision Tour, Halong Bay Day Tour With Titop Island, Cave, Kayak & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hanoi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hanoi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
