Through Eternity is a winner.

Through Eternity is an excellent and reliable company. My experience was very good and I will use them again. My tour guide Elena was the best. We started the tour on time, and visited all the highlights of Roman Ostia. Elena was particularly knowledgeable of the mosaics and Ostia's most famous visitor, St. Augustine and his mother Monica. Elena was very flexible about hoe to arrange the tour. The heat started to make me tired and she rearranged things so that I could have a much needed break in the air conditioned museum. My only recommendation is to ask for the earlier start time. I was surprised by how fast it became warm.

Response from the operator: We truly appreciate your wonderful and detailed feedback! We're delighted to hear that you had such a great experience with Elena and enjoyed exploring the highlights of Roman Ostia. It's wonderful to know that her knowledge of the mosaics and the history of St. Augustine and Monica added so much to your visit, and that she was able to adapt the tour to make you more comfortable. Thank you as well for your helpful recommendation. We truly appreciate your trust!

Ancient history brought to life

This was a stunning experience, a highlight of our visit to Rome. The ruins are incredibly well preserved, and we were so glad that we booked a private tour, because it helped us to understand what we were seeing and experiencing. Our guide Paola was an archaeologist with deep knowledge of the ancient port, and she brought Ostia Antica to life for us, explaining how people lived in ancient times, how they went about their everyday, and how truly multicultural and globalized the port city was, even two thousand years ago. Not only that, but Paola was so thoughtful, so accommodating to our needs (we visited on a very hot day) and our particular interests, we felt like we could have talked with her for days. It was truly an unforgettable experience. Thank you so much Paola for a great visit to Ostia Antica!

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt and detailed review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear that your private Ostia Antica tour was one of the highlights of your visit to Rome. Ostia Antica is such a remarkable site, and we’re thrilled that Paola was able to bring its history to life by sharing insights into the daily lives, cultures, and stories of the people who once called this ancient port city home. Her passion as an archaeologist and dedication to creating a personalized experience truly shine through, and we’ll be sure to share your kind words with her. We’re also glad that Paola could help make your visit comfortable and enjoyable, especially on such a warm day. Thank you for choosing to explore Ostia Antica with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable journey through Rome’s fascinating history!

Best Tour Ever!

We took a private tour of Ostia Antica and it was the highlight of our trip. Our guide, Brandon from Canada, was incredible. He is highly knowledgeable in archaeology, history and the classics. He is literally a PhD candidate who studies the area. He was funny, relatable and provided us with the best tour (and we take a lot of tours) of our 4 week trip. Thanks Brandon! Michelle, Kate and Shawn

Must do

Absolutely amazing experience! Our guide (Brandon) literally made Ostia come alive for us. I cannot recommend this tour enough. After crowds of Rome Ostia felt like our personal excavation into the past. This tour was our absolute favourite on our vacation and we have visited almost all the famous sites (Colloseum, Pompeii, Knossos, Ephesus, Epidarius and Acropolis).

Response from the operator: Ciao Natalia! We're so delighted you enjoyed your time exploring Ostia Antica with Brandon! He will be very happy to hear your kind words. Please do look us up again should you find yourself back in Italy or one of the other incredible locations we service. Grazie mille e a presto! Amanda

Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome cost?

+

Prices start at $337 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome take?

+

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Ostia Antica Tour: The Perfectly Preserved Port of Ancient Rome start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
