Unbelievable Northern Lights Experience
No one can predict what you’ll see when you book a northern lights outing six months in advance, but luck was definitely on our side—along with an incredible guide. We booked a private tour for six with Aurora Experts, and Heimer was outstanding from start to finish. Heimer took us well outside the city lights of Reykjavík, carefully choosing a location to give us the best possible chance of seeing the aurora. He was knowledgeable, patient, and clearly very experienced, helping us adjust our phone settings so we could capture great photos. He also came prepared with snowsuits, chairs, and traditional Icelandic snacks, which made the experience much more comfortable and enjoyable. We saw beautiful northern lights early on, but by around 11:30 pm we were cold and ready to head back. On the drive toward the city, Heimer continued monitoring the aurora activity and noticed conditions were improving. Instead of taking us straight back, he made the decision to stop again in an area with minimal light pollution—and that’s when we were treated to the experience of a lifetime. The lights intensified and danced across the sky in a way we’ll never forget. As Heimer said, we got a “10 out of 10.” Without hesitation, I highly recommend Aurora Experts for a northern lights outing. Heimer could have easily taken us back to Reykjavik, but instead he went above and beyond to make sure we had an unforgettable experience. The photos are all taken with our phones.

Outstanding Experience!! - Highly Recommend!! - The Ultimate Private Northern Lights Tour
HIGHLIGHTS: 1. Great communication, conversation, information, and flexibility! 2. Incredible professional photos (no stress to take pictures with my phone or purchase a professional camera) 3. Peace of mind - we were fortunate the lights came out, however, I knew if the weather did not cooperate during our travel, we would be able to return and do this tour again at no extra cost! 4. FAR SUPERIOR to any "included" Northern Lights tour (We took the tour with Aurora Experts in place of the standard tour offered through the travel agency we booked our other travel through. The standard "Northern Lights Tour" is a bus that takes a large group out to a spot and sits and waits to see the lights in one location - 2/3 nights the tour was cancelled and the night it was on, the other people in our tour said no lights were seen.) 5. Worth EVERY Dollar!! 6. Having someone who understands weather patterns in Iceland, how to capture the Northern Lights on a camera, and knows key spots for viewing is invaluable! We took our first trip to Iceland this November and were hopeful we would see the Northern Lights. While doing research, we chose to add the Ultimate Northern Lights Private Tour with Aurora Experts - and we are SO GLAD we made this choice!! Communication was great, our tour came with OUTSTANDING photos and drinks /Icelandic food - snacks, and our guide Heimir (owner of Aurora Experts) took us to multiple locations to search for and follow the lights. AMAZING!! Each day in Iceland, Heimir reached out and gave an update on which night looked best for the lights. On the evening we went, the weather was quite windy and cloudy. Because of this, all normal (included in travel agency trips) Northern Lights Tours were cancelled. Heimir, however, reached out and asked if we were willing to wait and see how the weather evolved. It was well worth the wait! WOW!! He picked us up and we felt like storm chasers finding the Northern Lights! As we drove out of Reykjavik to get away from light pollution, Heimir was so friendly and informative. We talked about Iceland, the wild changes in weather, the resources he uses to track the lights, and he gave us great advice on ways to spend the remainder of our time in Iceland. We stopped in four different locations and had unique views of the lights each time! At each stop, Heimir got out his tripod and camera and took photos of us and the lights. As someone who enjoys taking many pictures of our travels, I was relieved that we would have professional photos of the lights - something I tried researching and knew would be a hassle IF we could even find the lights on our own or in a group trip. Having someone who understands weather patterns in Iceland, how to capture the Northern Lights on a camera, and knows key spots for viewing is invaluable! After taking photos in our final spot, Heimir had hot chocolate, other drinks, Icelandic snacks, and Icelandic sweets. We had a snack and drink while continuing to watch the lights and talk. Heimir was incredibly friendly and there was a great balance of conversation and opportunities to just stare at the lights "in awe." As we stood and watched the lights show up and go away, Heimir would also get out his camera and let us look at the lights through the camera - as we learned, the camera captures even more colors /is more vibrant than the naked eye. It was really fun to see them appear in the sky then look through the camera and get an even more vibrant view! Heimir also took time to explain how to spot the lights and gave us a deeper understanding and appreciation for this natural phenomenon. I booked this tour for a proposal and Heimir went the extra step to make sure this was a special moment for us and we have great photos to go with the great memory! The entire experience - from booking to being picked up and dropped off at our hotel front door - was outstanding! When we return to Iceland, we will be using Heimir's tours to continue to explore the beautiful country. Thank you again, Heimir and Aurora Experts, for your generosity, expertise, and flexibility! Anyone who wants a great Northern Lights experience should book this tour!

£1,200 Private tour but we didn't get picked up and haven't received a refund or compensation since.
We booked a private northern lights tour, costing £1,200, this was booked around 3 months in advance. We had no communication after the initial booking, then after making multiple attempts to contact via phone, email and Facebook on the days leading up to tour, we only had a reply late on the afternoon of our booking, this confirmed the tour was still proceeding but with very limited information other than to be outside of out hotel for 10pm. The tour guide ended up collecting the wrong couple and we never had the tour we paid for. After initial communication with Heimir, and him admitting to picking up the wrong couple, we have had no communication since nor any refund.
Response from the operator: Hi Matt. This is such an unfair review after all of our communication. Lets stick with the facts instead of lies : - We didn't pick up wrong guests. You where picked up by a different company that we don't have any connection with and you went with them even without asking them who they we're. This happens shortly before our guide arrives there and that's the reason why you can't blame this on us or say that i have admitted to pick up the wrong guest. There we're two Matt's at that hotel that evening and both going on private tour. That's what we learned after finding out with witch company you went and they have admitted that they did wrong. We asked them to take care of this and process the refund but they we're not willing to do that so we offered to help and pay part of it. They accepted that and then i sent you the options that we had and i have never heard back from you again, that was last winter and you're bringing this up now ? Why don't you just reply back to the last email from us ? - We sent you confirmation when you booked the tour with all information that you needed where we also explain that we will be in touch on the day of the tour with more information regarding the weather and pick up. It's not the usual way of communication to stay in touch with our guests for 3 months after you book the tour but you are welcome to contact us with questions which you never did but we're always here to help. I would be more then happy to proceed with the solution that we talked about and even after a unfair review like this so you are welcome to send us email and we can finish the agreement that we we're trying to close down.

Fantastic tailored experienced
Fantastic experience, made all the better by Heimir’s skill and enthusiasm, was like being on the set of a film as we careered towards a prime spot. Well worth paying a little extra for the individual attention and focus, this is one your you should not scrimp on. Brilliant!

Why this scores 47
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Reykjavik.
How much does Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks cost?
+
Prices start at $1732 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Reykjavik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Reykjavik is not rushed.
Is Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 47 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Reykjavik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Reykjavik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Reykjavik and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Northern Lights Tour with Photos, Snowsuits and Snacks start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Reykjavik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Reykjavik?
+
On Outty we rank every Reykjavik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland, Small-Group Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket & Kerid Crater, Reykjavík Small group Walking Tour - by CityWalk. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Reykjavik?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
