What you get

    About this experience

A day of light and shadow — the most difficult and the most breathtaking chapters of 20th-century history, guided with care. In the morning we visit the Mauthausen Memorial, the former concentration camp above the Danube (entry is free). Jenny, a historian by education, guides you respectfully through the granite quarry, the "Stairs of Death" and the national memorials, giving context that turns a heavy place into an essential lesson. We take this part slowly and quietly. In the afternoon the landscape changes completely as we climb to the Kehlsteinhaus — the Eagle's Nest. Pass through the marble-lined tunnel, ride the original brass elevator 124 metres up through solid rock, and step out to one of Europe's greatest alpine panoramas at 1,834 m. The contrast to the morning is exactly the point. We're honest about the day: 12–14 hours with significant driving, broken by scenic stops. Vlad drives, Jenny guides and photographs — you simply take it in.

A wonderful experience! Bucket list is checked.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and experienced. She was well prepared with maps and images to show us while we were traveling. Our driver was excellent as well. He made us feel safe on the autobahn and the vehicle was very comfortable. They modified the tour so that we could experience Schloss Altstaetter, as we had just seen the Mauthausen earlier. And our guide took lots of pictures of us as well.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so happy you enjoyed the tour and felt safe and comfortable along the way. It was a pleasure sharing these places with you — and I’m glad the visit to Schloss Altstätten made the day even more special. Wishing you many wonderful travels ahead! Warmly, Jenny

    Curahee !

An amazing tour from start to finish and its not only due to the tour destination which is a must do for all history enthusiasts but because of our tour guide(s) jenny and vladymir . Jenny was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very obliging in sharing her vast knowledge of austrian history and of course the sites of our tours as well. In fact both went above and beyond and shared other attractions and connected us to other events of note happening in and around Vienna itself. Her photos she shared of the harrowing events that happened at mauthausen were extremely interesting and at the eagles nest of easy company mortarman bradford freeman returning to eagles nest after so many decades were enlightening to say the least . I really enjoyed the tour and highly recommend jenny and vladymir as your guide for the day if you are contemplating the same tours ! Thank you and good luck and all the best to jenny and vladymir

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your heartfelt review! It truly means the world to us that you enjoyed the tour and found our passion for Austrian history enriching. We believe that sharing these significant historical moments, such as the events at Mauthausen and the story of Bradford Freeman at the Eagle’s Nest, helps bring the past to life in a meaningful way. It was a pleasure to guide you through these important places, and we're glad you appreciated the additional insights and connections we shared about Vienna and its surroundings. Your kind words about us going above and beyond warm our hearts, and we’re thrilled that the experience left such an impression on you. Thank you for your high recommendation and for allowing us to be part of your journey. Wishing you all the best, and we hope to see you again for more memorable adventures! Warm regards, Jenny & Vladimir

    Cozy Travel is Amazing!

I cannot recommend this trip enough. Jenny is an amazing guide! On the ride from Vienna to Mauthausen, Jenny provided us with an informative history of Austria. Her knowledge of Mauthausen and its history was amazing. It was such an emotional visit - but something that was such a huge part of world history. Then it was off to the Eagle’s Nest. She provided more historical facts about the region on our ride there. We had a cloudy day - the peak was actually in the clouds. But it was still stunning! We had a nice lunch and plenty of time to walk around and read about its history. On the long ride back to Vienna, Jenny set up a movie for us to watch in the car. A nice touch! Driving was comfortable and water provided. I would do another of Jenny’s tours in a heartbeat! If you’re looking for a great, friendly tour - book with Jenny and Cozy Travel! We just loved our day with her!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your heartfelt review. It was an honor to guide you through Mauthausen and the Eagle's Nest, and I'm glad the experience was meaningful for you. Despite the clouds, I'm happy you found the visit memorable and enjoyed the added touches like the movie and the comfortable ride. Your kind words truly mean a lot to me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share these moments with you and look forward to welcoming you on another Cozy Travel adventure soon. Warm regards, Jenny

Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vienna.

How much does Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest cost?

    +

Prices start at $690 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vienna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vienna is not rushed.

Is Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Vienna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vienna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vienna and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Memorial Tour from Vienna to Mauthausen & Eagle's Nest start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vienna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Vienna?

    +

On Outty we rank every Vienna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Authentic Vienna Food Tour inc. lunch, street food, 3 drinks, Vienna Food Tour: Coffeehouses, Markets, Lunch & Street Food, Budapest Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Vienna?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Vienna?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
