Rain in the desert... a unique experience!

We had an extraordinary experience! Youssef was a fantastic guide and a very careful driver which was really important on those overland roads crossing serveral mountains. The impressions we got will remain for life - and will hardy be repeated to other travellers: it was raining cats and dogs in the desert! Before, it had not rained in 4 years... We had both cultural and nature sightseeing which was well balanced. The riad (hotel) of the first night was just perfect with wonderful welcome tea, dinner and breakfast offered by very friendly and competent personell. The camel ride, of course, was a unique experience. The tent in the camp war spacious and well equipped. The only drawback in the camp was the personell that hardly showed up and did not stick to the schedule that they themselves had given to us. Unfortunately, our driver and guide could not come with us to the camp. He would have taken care of everything and would have solved any question or issue immediately. However, all the rest outweighed this detail by far!

Response from the operator: I’m so glad you enjoyed the trip and honestly, that rain in the desert was something crazy you were very lucky to experience something so rare! It was really nice spending time with you, you’re such kind and easygoing people. I truly appreciate your feedback about the camp, I’ll definitely take care of that for the future. You’re always welcome anytime, it would be great to see you again in Morocco

Desert in the rain - a unique experience

It was a great experience. The driver and guide was extremely competent and friendly, we felt very safe and well served. What no one could have predicted was the weather: Rain in the desert! It hadn't rained in four years. The first night we spent in a riad with excellent dinner and breakfast! Already on arrival we received tea and typical pastries. The staff was very friendly, striving and accommodating. The tours were well planned and informative, also perfect in terms of quantity and intensity. The visit to the Berber cooperative was very interesting, and although we didn't really want to buy a carpet, we finally bought one because we found one that fits in our apartment. After some action we were able to agree on a fair price for both sides. The only downside of the tour was the camp in the desert. Our driver was not allowed into the camp, but had to wait where we started the camel ride and would come back the next day. The tent was good and provided with adequate blankets - the night was freezing cold, but otherwise we felt pretty left alone in the camp, the staff showed up only sporadically, announced times were not kept. The food was mediocre. Too bad that our guide was not there, he would have solved everything quickly and easily. Even by phone he was available and a help. Nevertheless, we did not let the mood spoil and made the most of the situation. Sunset we did not see any due to the dense clouds, but were compensated with a magical sunrise!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review. We are very happy that you felt safe and well cared for during your trip. We sincerely apologize for the unusual weather, with clouds and rain in the desert. We are proud of our driver, whose professionalism and kindness ensured your comfort throughout the journey. Despite the weather, we are glad you enjoyed the magical sunrise. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to welcome you again in Morocco. Warm regards, J&K Luxury Tours

Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Marrakech.

How much does Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $600 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Marrakech usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour take?

+

Plan for about 72 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Marrakech is not rushed.

Is Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Marrakech, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 72 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 72-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Marrakech can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Marrakech and add a light layer if any part of the 72-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Luxury 3-Day Merzouga and Sahara Desert Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Marrakech within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Marrakech?

+

On Outty we rank every Marrakech experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Agafay Desert Quad Bike Camel Ride and Dinner Show, Best Marrakech to Fes Sahara Desert Tour with Camp & Camel Trek, 3 Day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour Camel Rides and Overnight. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Marrakech?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Marrakech?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
