Tour to caves/Ledesi village
Very interactive experience! Caves involve walking up/down different height stairs and crouching, kneeling, crawling. About 15 feet of that plus 1.5km distance. Trevor was amazing as a guide. Wear warm clothing and durable, plus you will have on hardhats, so ladies, you are forewarned! Ledesi village experience is also a lot of walking, but worth it to learn about 5 different tribes. Thoroughly enjoyed our interaction.

Educational & Fun Tour
We first drove about an hour to Sterkfontein Cave at the Cradle of Humankind. This UNESCO heritage site is the home of the oldest fossils in human evolution. These limestone caves are where the "Mrs Ples" skull and the nearly complete 3.67-million-year-old "Little Foot" skeleton were discovered. We paid the $9.30 entry fee for each of us and joined another couple to take the 1.5 hour tour of the caves. Our local tour guide provided excellent information during the tour. We then drove to the Lesedi Cultural Village where the traditions, music and lifestyles of South Africa’s major tribal groups are brought to life by local hosts. On arrival, we were welcomed at the Ndebele Village by representatives of the tribes that dwell at Lesedi. The tour begins with a multi-sensory presentation of the origins of South Africa’s indigenous inhabitants. We then went to a large room where we learned to play the local drums. This was followed by a guided walk through the several tribal homesteads where we learned about each tribal culture. We ended in the Boma (a large enclosure) for the Ingoma (dance) show, a dance extravaganza depicting ancestral folklore and rituals. We paid the $28 entry fee for each of us and joined a group of about 20 people for the tour. Shane does not provide water or drinks so you need to bring water with you. He uses his own car for the tour that lasts 7-8 hours

Awesome guide for your tours.
Shane was the best guide. We went to Maropeng:Cradle of Human Kind and Lesedi Cultural Village. He picked us up from our hotel and took us to our tours. We planned on going to Kruger National Park the next day and he gave us great tips on where to go and places to eat even though he wasn't taking us. I would highly recommend using him for your tours. Thank you.
Response from the operator: Thank you EC for the review. Happy the cultural tour was enjoyable. I hope you guys enjoyed the Kruger Park and the rest of your time in South Africa. All the best . Shane

Great day with Shane
Shane was a great guide, with an excellent balance between facts and interesting stories. We had a great day- 2 unforgettable experiences. The caves were incredible and we learnt a lot from our expert guide. The village was really interesting and the singing and dancing was fabulous. Shane took us to a great coffee spot on the way and recommended a really great restaurant for us for lunch after the tour - and dropped us off. We had a top experience.
Response from the operator: Hi Meghanne and James. Had wonderful day with you guys. So enjoyable when people are nice and love our culture. Thankyou and all the best and be safe. Shane

Rhino and Lion Park and Sterkfontein Caves
I visited the Rhino and Lion Park where we saw plenty of animals up close including lions, rhinos, wild dogs, and a cheetah. Shane was an excellent safari guide and he shared a lot of interesting information about the animals. I also visited the Sterkfontein Caves and museum. I would definitely recommend this tour since it appeals to different age groups!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your review. It was an enjoyable day. All the best Shane

Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Johannesburg.
How much does Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $1100 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Johannesburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Johannesburg is not rushed.
Is Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 65 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Johannesburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 9. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour?
+
Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Johannesburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Johannesburg and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Lesedi Cultural Village and Cradle of Humankind Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Johannesburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Johannesburg?
+
On Outty we rank every Johannesburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Ultimate Pilanesberg National Park Safari from Johannesburg or Pretoria, Soweto and Johannesburg Exclusive Full Day Guided Tour, Half Guided Day Tour of Soweto And Apartheid Museum. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Johannesburg?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Johannesburg?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
