Citadel of Saladin
You climb to the Citadel of Saladin, the limestone fortress begun in 1176, and into the Mosque of Muhammad Ali at its center, its alabaster walls and twin Ottoman minarets crowning the skyline since the 1840s. Under the great central dome your guide explains the ruler who reshaped modern Egypt. From the terrace, Cairo spreads out below you to the pyramids on a clear day. Modest dress is needed inside the mosque, and shoes come off at the carpet's edge.

Mosque of Ibn Tulun
You visit the Mosque of Ibn Tulun, built in the 9th century and one of the oldest and largest mosques in Egypt, its vast open courtyard ringed by simple pointed arches. The unmistakable feature is the spiral minaret, with an external staircase winding up the outside, modeled on the ancient ziggurats of Iraq. Climb it for a sweeping view over the rooftops. Far quieter than the Citadel, it is a favorite of architects and photographers alike.

The Hanging Church
Down in Coptic Cairo you reach the Hanging Church, so named because its nave is built over the gatehouse of the Roman fortress of Babylon and appears to hang above the passage. Parts date to the 7th century, and inside are inlaid screens, icons, and an ark-shaped wooden roof. Your guide walks you through the narrow lanes of the old Christian quarter around it, among the oldest churches in Egypt. Calm and shaded, it is an easy walk.

El Gawhara (Jewel) Palace Museum
You finish at the Gawhara Palace, built in 1814 beside the Citadel as the residence and reception hall of Muhammad Ali. Inside are gilded ceilings, period furniture, royal portraits, and a famous clock given by King Louis-Philippe of France. It offers a glimpse of how Egypt's 19th-century rulers lived, a different register from the ancient temples and a fitting end to a day spent moving through Cairo's many layers.

Fabulous day tour and insight into ancient Cairo
This is just a fabulous day tour and a fascinating insight into ancient Egypt. Well-paced and well-organised with a great lunch stop to try the delicious local speciality of Koshari. Our guide was Hosni and he was 'amazing' - his favourite word. Very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. 100% recommended - along with our trusty driver Rafa Schumacher. We had a bad experience yesterday with a different company and wish we had known about these guys first. Great tour thanks 🤗

Beyond Belief, in the best way.
We don’t do reviews. However this experience is worth writing about. These folks handled our trip into Cairo and Nile cruise with excellence. Our Egyptologist guide, Mina, in Cairo was knowledgeable and went well beyond our expectations. Our Egyptologist for the cruise from Luxor down to Aswan and all the stops in between, Super Mo’, was 5 stars all the way. The whole team at egypt day tours were 100% in control and looked after our every need.

Packed Tour Through Cairo
My husband and I went on a half day trip to the Coptic churches in Cairo and the Jewish synagogue located nearby. Our guide Loay (Lulu) was a gem. He was a bit on the hyper side so we had to walk fast to keep up with him. His descriptions were colorful and English was good. At the end of the day he took us to a papyrus shop and an aromatherapy place where we bought a few items. There we met other friendly locals who shared tasty pastries with us and even gave us a bag to take back to our hotel. Even lunch was included. The price was fair given that we had a private driver and guide. I would definitely recommend Loay and Egypt Day Tours. Oh, and a feluca ride was added too.
