Ride three hours into the Andes foothills just 30 to 40 minutes from your Santiago hotel. Our base is in Lo Barnechea, at the foot of the mountains, so you spend your time riding, not in traffic. Calm Chilean horses are matched to your height and weight, and no riding experience is needed. You climb through native forest to a high plateau facing glacier-capped peaks, where we stop for a picnic of local cheeses, chocolate and fresh juice. Andean condors often soar overhead. This is always a private experience with a bilingual guide and a local arriero (Chilean horseman). Choose the option with wine to finish at the ranch with Chilean wine, cheese and charcuterie. Riders up to 110 kg (242 lbs) are welcome.

Fun horse ride with wine & cheese…and, cats & dog!

We had a wonderful morning riding horses just outside of Santiago. The weather was not great so we couldn’t see the Andean mountain vistas but it was fun to explore nature. The horses were friendly and our guide, Therese, who owned the stables was great to talk to. A native of the US, she’s been in chile for decades and shared lots of information about the area. Later we had some wine and cheese in the barn. We also enjoyed meeting the stable cats (Nacho, specifically) and our guide dog, Max.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review. We’re really happy to hear you had such a wonderful morning on horseback just outside Santiago. While the weather didn’t allow for the Andean views this time, we’re glad you still enjoyed exploring nature and connecting with the experience. It’s great to know the horses and the atmosphere made the ride special, and that you enjoyed spending time with Therese and hearing her stories and local insights after so many years in Chile. Sharing wine and cheese in the barn is always a nice way to wrap up the ride — and we’re glad Nacho the cat and Max the dog added an extra smile to the day. Thank you for choosing Andes Explora, and we hope to welcome you back again for another memorable experience. Matías

    First Class Trip

This was an exceptional experience! Thank you to Matias, Frank and Colorado. Booking, communication, service all exceptional. Punctual and friendly pick up by Frank, short drive from the centre of Santiago. The ranch is rustic, the horses are all happy and well cared for. Suitable for any experience of rider. Due to terrain, it’s walking and a little trot. We spotted Condor and were accompanied by the ranches collie Max. Views were stunning. A well worth trip and one I would do again.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful words Claire! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such a memorable experience and that everything—from the booking process to the ride itself—met your expectations. It’s always a pleasure to share the beauty of the Andes with nature and horse lovers like you. We’d love to welcome you back anytime for another unforgettable ride! Matías

We love horse riding in Chile!

One of the most amazing experiences of my life! The breathtaking landscapes and the gentleness of the horses made me feel connected with the nature like never before..! My husband and I felt safe and joyful in the very pleasant company of our guide, Gustavo, who seems to be born for this job. The whole trip, including the hotel pick-up and drop-off, the arrival at the ranch, the climb, the break at the top, the descend and the lunch (farm made cheese, delicious!) took about 6 hours, with 3h and a half of horse riding. All the animals at the farm were very affective (horses, dog, cats). When you ride on the trail, you need to be a bit careful with some branches, but the trail is generally clean and the horses know it very well. At the top I recommend having a small snack - horse riding costs you energy, even if you only sit on the horse:).

Response from the operator: We’re thrilled that you had such an amazing experience! Our guides are deeply passionate about what they do and about sharing the beauty of nature. Delivering meaningful connections with the natural world is at the heart of everything we do, so receiving reviews like yours lets us know we’re on the right track. We hope to welcome you on another adventure with us soon!

    A great day.

I was considering doing the full day because I thought it would be a better experience. I was wrong. This was the ideal booking. Plenty of time in the saddle, great views, great guide.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind review! We absolutely agree that this is the perfect trip—you get to experience stunning landscapes without traveling too far or feeling overly tired. Its proximity to the city makes it easy to spend more time outdoors and less time in the car. We look forward to seeing you again on another adventure with us!

Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santiago.

How much does Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine cost?

    +

Prices start at $219 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santiago usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santiago is not rushed.

Is Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Santiago, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santiago can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santiago and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Andes Horseback Ride with Summit Picnic & Optional Wine start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santiago within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Santiago?

    +

On Outty we rank every Santiago experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Maipo Valley Wine Region: 4 Wineries, Tastings & Foodie Tour, Valparaiso Port and Viña del Mar with Casablanca Wine Tasting, Tour to Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Pablo Neruda Museum and Vineyard. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Santiago?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Santiago?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
