Miko provided us an enjoyable experience!
We had a full-day hike with Miko in October 2025. He was an amazing guide, made us feel safe, and clearly communicated the plan for the day and the hike conditions (as a cold wave was hitting the Beijing area). If you plan to go, do bring some trail running shoes or, even better, light hiking boots. The weather in autumn can be changeable, and some portions of the hike are not as you see in movies, but enjoy yourself, your hiking buddies, and embrace everything that comes. You'll walk on one of the wonders of the world!

Miko + Great Wall = Bucket List ✅
‘You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take’ - Michael Jordan. That quote might not be Kobe but Miko hopefully you still like it! This was one shot that myself and my university friend were delighted we did take. We met Miko doing a forbidden city tour a few days earlier and were so impressed by his knowledge, humour and fluency that we immediately asked if he did Great Wall trips. He helped us curate a perfect tour that started at midday, saw us watch sunset from the wall and also have dinner in the beautiful water town for Gubei. He was friendly, colloquially brilliant and of course helped us understand the history in a way that no book or audio tour can. 100% recommend using him and also going to the Jinshanglin part of the wall for breathtaking views with very few crowds.

James was a fantastic guide!
We had a lovely day hiking with James! He was thorough, friendly and relaxed and we felt very comfortable and safe throughout. It was my husband’s birthday and James even got him a delicious cake to cut on a watch tower with amazing views! The lunch was homey and delicious. I really can’t say enough good things - on the whole, a once in a lifetime experience tailored to our specific needs and wishes. Highly recommend!
Response from the operator: Dear Trisha Thank you so much for taking the time to share such wonderful feedback about your hiking experience with James! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that you had a lovely day and that James made the trip so memorable for you and your husband. It’s fantastic to know that his thorough, friendly, and relaxed approach helped you feel comfortable and safe throughout the hike. We’re especially delighted that James could help celebrate your husband’s birthday with a cake at the watch tower—what a special touch! We’re also glad you enjoyed the homemade lunch. Your kind words mean the world to us, and we’ll be sure to pass your compliments along to James. It’s our goal to create personalized, once-in-a-lifetime experiences for our guests, and we’re so happy we could deliver that for you. We truly appreciate your high recommendation and would be honored to welcome you back for another adventure in the future! Warm regards, Kassy

An Unforgettable Way to Experience the Great Wall - Stunning Views, Amazing Guides, and Delicious Ending
We did the Jiankou to Mutianyu hike today and it was absolutely incredible. Peter and James were fantastic guides – knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. This route lets you enjoy the Great Wall in a stunning, less crowded section, which made it all the more special. The scenery was breathtaking, and finishing with an amazing meal was the perfect ending. Totally worth it!

Once in a lifetime hike!
Fantastic experience to hike along a wild portion of the Great Wall. Comfortable ride out to the wall. Peter was an amazing and attentive guide. My husband speaks Chinese so he taught us in both English and Mandarin- so my husband could work on his speaking and listening skills. Hike starts with a one mile switchback hike through a wooded (relatively steep) trail to the first guard tower. Here the views are incredible! We then hiked 1-1.5 miles along a rustic wild portion of the wall- active archeological site, trees & greenery growing up through the wall. Then we transitioned to the more tourist/improved section- this was still plenty of climbing up and down stairs. This section was still amazingly beautiful and a good chance to get a feel of what the wall would have been like when used. Then it was a long downhill walk on a stepped path to the entrance parking lot. In total, (according to my garmin) we completed about 5 miles. Peter walked at our pace- so this is definitely doable but would recommend you be in good physical shape. We learned so much about the Wall and had plenty of time to stop for photos. Water and hiking poles were provided as well as a delicious lunch. A once in a life time experience. The Great Wall is truly one of the wonders of the world. Must do! In my two weeks in China, this was my favorite activity.

Why this scores 81
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.
How much does Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu cost?
+
Prices start at $88 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.
Is Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 77 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu?
+
Around 27 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Hiking Tour From Jiankou To Mutianyu start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Beijing?
+
On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Beijing?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Beijing?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
