About this experience

Some cities take a lifetime to understand. Byblos takes a morning — and stays with you forever. Just 45 minutes north of Beirut, this private guided half-day tour takes you to one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth, where 7,000 years of human civilisation are visible in a single walk. Your expert guide brings Byblos to life in a way no guidebook can — walking you through Neolithic foundations, Bronze Age temples, Phoenician royal tombs, Roman colonnaded streets, and a Crusader castle built from stones recycled across millennia, all within the same archaeological site. Byblos gave the world its alphabet. Its name gave us the word Bible. By the time you reach the ancient fishing port for lunch, you will understand why this city has never been abandoned in 7,000 years.

What you'll see and do

  1. Beirut

9:00 AM — Departure from Beirut Your private guide and driver collect you from your Beirut hotel and head north along the Mediterranean coastal highway — Byblos is 45 minutes away and best experienced in the morning, when the ancient stones are quiet and the light falls perfectly on the honey-coloured walls of the old city.

  2. Byblos Castle

Arrive in Byblos and enter one of the most layered and extraordinary archaeological sites in the world. The 12th-century Crusader castle that dominates the site was built from stones recycled from Phoenician temples and Roman buildings — civilisations literally built on top of each other, their stones reused and repurposed across millennia. Inside, the full depth of Byblos unfolds beneath your feet: Neolithic settlements dating to 5000 BC, Bronze Age temple platforms, Phoenician royal tombs carved into the bedrock, Persian-era walls, and Roman colonnaded streets stretching toward the sea. Your expert guide reads every layer of this extraordinary site aloud — connecting the dots between civilisations that most visitors walk past without realising what they are standing on. By the time you leave the castle, Byblos will feel less like a ruin and more like a conversation across seven thousand years.

  3. Old Souk

Step out of the archaeological site and into the living city — the old souk's stone-paved lanes wind past jewellers crafting Phoenician-inspired pieces, antique dealers with centuries of accumulated finds, and café doorways that have been open for generations. Follow the lane all the way down to the ancient fishing harbour — one of the oldest ports in the world, still in daily use, still colourful with wooden boats, still framed by medieval walls with the Mediterranean beyond. This is where the history ends and the present begins — and where lunch, if you choose to stay, will be one of the most memorable of your trip.

  4. Byblos

Lunch in Byblos — waterfront A table at the water's edge, fresh mezze arriving in waves, grilled fish pulled from the same waters the Phoenicians fished — with the oldest harbour in the world as your view. Optional, but the kind of optional that nobody regrets saying yes to.

    60 minutes here

  5. Beirut

Return to Beirut — approx. 2:00–3:00 PM Your guide and driver take you back along the coast to Beirut with drop-off at your hotel — completing a morning that compressed 7,000 years of human history into five unforgettable hours.

Byblos half-day tour

We had a great day tour with Lebanon Tours today. The guide was amazing and the tour is absolutely worth it even with less people in Byblos, but the city is beautiful.

Is Private Guided Tour to Byblos from Beirut | Half Day worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beirut, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Is Private Guided Tour to Byblos from Beirut | Half Day suitable for kids and families?

+

How far in advance should I book Private Guided Tour to Byblos from Beirut | Half Day?

+

Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beirut can sell out a month out. What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beirut and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Beirut?

+

On Outty we rank every Beirut experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guided Small-Group Tour to Baalbek, Anjar and Ksara with Lunch, Guided Small-Group Tour to Jeita, Harissa, Byblos with Lunch, Jeita Grotto,Harissa&Byblos Full-Day PRIVATE-CAR Trip from Beirut. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beirut?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beirut?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
