    Best surf lesson!

I've been taking lessons with Ivan for a couple years now, and I can't recommend him highly enough. He embodies the true spirit of aloha! He's patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in the success of his students. What stands out most is how sincerely happy Ivan is to see his students' progress. Every milestone, whether big or small, is met with enthusiasm and support. He creates an environment where I always feel safe in the water while also challenging me to grow. Ivan's passion for surfing and teaching is evident in every lesson. He doesn't just help people learn to surf - he helps them develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for a lifetime of surfing. If you're looking for an instructor who combines expertise, safety, genuine care, and the stoke, I wholeheartedly recommend Ivan at Hook Up Surfing.

    Awesome Coaching!

Surf coaching from Ivan is a must do. He makes sure you learn at your level and he will make sure you catch as many waves as possible. I've done lessons with him a few times over the last few years and I'm hooked. Some of my best surfing has been with him. I recommend the private lesson to improve your surfing at any level.

    MUST DO!

Ivan is amazing! My 18 year old went from never being in a board to a pro in 2 hours thanks to Ivan. She was up on the 3rd wave! HIGHLY recommend. Advice to family on the beach wanting to watch, take binoculars so you can watch. This is a must do if going to Waikiki!

    Awesome

Ivan is knowledgeable, patient and a great teacher. I definitely recommend him for any age surfing student. He met us and reviewed technique prior to water entry.

A wonderful first time surfing experience

I’m visiting Honolulu for the week with my family and booked a private lesson for 6 of us with Ivan. It was the first time for all of us and it was a wonderful experience and highlight of our trip. We had two young children (ages 6 and 9) and Ivan had a team of 4 to help ensure we all had a good experience. The 6 year old was nervous and unsure if he wanted to do it but with the support of Ivan’s team he gained the confidence to come out with us and had a great time along with the rest of our group. After learning the basics from Ivan we’re all looking forward to our next time surfing!

Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oahu.

How much does Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu cost?

    +

Prices start at $165 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oahu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oahu is not rushed.

Is Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oahu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oahu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oahu and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Guided Surf Boarding Lesson in Honolulu start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oahu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Oahu?

    +

On Outty we rank every Oahu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Oahu: Full or Half Day Grand Circle Island Tour, Pearl Harbor Remembered Tour, Oahu Small-Group Circle Island Tour with Turtle Snorkeling. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Oahu?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Oahu?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
