About this experience

Nice tour, tricky hike, overpriced but great guide.
Fun tour, four stars only because in my opinion, the tour is way overpriced. Livia was a great guide (loved the story about Wilhelm Tell) the visit to the cheese factory and barbecue was OK, the owner was a little rude because we didn't speak German, also, I do understand it is a farm, but they were pumping and spreading the cow menure right next to the restaurant. Livia did a great job with lunch and the BBQ. I would recommend but I'd cut the price by at least 30%.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback on the Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour and appreciated Livia’s guidance and storytelling. We apologize for the inconvenience at the cheese factory and farm. We’ll address this with the owner to ensure a better experience for future guests. Your comments about the pricing are noted and will be considered for future tours. Thank you for your honest review and recommendation.

Off the beaten path
We like seeing hidden gems when on vacation and this was definitely one. We loved getting to hike on some lesser traveled pass and get up close and personal to the roaming cows. Having Mark do a bbq in one of the outposts was a wonderful and unique experience. Taking the ferry back was an unexpected bonus that allowed the trip to really show all aspects of the area.
Response from the operator: Thank you Jessica for the lovely feedback! We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Rigi hike with Mark. It sounds like it was an amazing experience and we can't wait to have you on our next hike soon!

Fantastic experience! Our guide Ezra is a native of Lucerne and he went above and beyond for us with our hike and explanation of the culture and history. Request Ezra for sure

Awesome property, WONDERFUL staff and great location
My son and I had the most amazing time on this tour. We actually spent the night at the farm. Our guide, Andrea was the best and we hope to remain in contact with him. I can't express the level of care and compassion he had for my son and I. Also his knowledge of Mount Rigi and the culture was an added benefit. He BBQ a lunch of us over a campfire and we chatted about our lives. It was the highlight of pir two week tour of the area. I would definitely recommend this tour! The overnight at the farm was awesome too. Our host Tony was very accommodating and the fondu dinner he prepared was the best ever! Our room was comfortable and very clean. The morning we awoke to a beautiful breakfast with many choices ranging from fresh croissants, fresh fruit, eggs, cheeses and local meats. I want to go back just writing this review. This was well planned and very professional from start to finish. Great job to Rene and your team. We will be back!!
Response from the operator: Dear Julie, Thank you for sharing your Mt. Rigi, Cheese- Dairy farm day hike and overnight experience. This is one of Lake Lucerne's "local secrets" and we are so pleased you and your son really enjoyed yourselves. Yes, the Tony Franz Kennel fondue is the best because it's his cheese and you are eating it at 5,000 ft overlooking the Central Swiss Alps. This is one of Switzerland's most authentic & sustainable experiences all within easy access from Lucerne. Personally, this is one of my favourite places and even I visit as much as I can, it's always a highlight. Wishing you a future return to this place. With best, René Welti

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lucerne.
How much does Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ cost?
+
Prices start at $120 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lucerne usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lucerne is not rushed.
Is Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lucerne, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 9-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lucerne can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lucerne and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Guided Hike on Mt. Rigi with Farm Visit and BBQ start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lucerne within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Lucerne?
+
On Outty we rank every Lucerne experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jungfraujoch Top of Europe Day Trip from Lucerne, Lucerne Walking & Boat Tour: The Best Swiss Experience, Mount Pilatus Summit from Lucerne With Lake Cruise. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lucerne?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lucerne?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
