After your tour with us, all the formations on the Big Island will make sense. * Dress code: LAYERS and raincoats; mountain weather can change 20 degrees.*

    What you'll see and do

    1. Kilauea Visitor Center

It is an exciting year to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Kilauea has erupted many times since 12-23-24. We want you to understand the unique formations you will see all over the Hawaiian islands, and you will after your 3-hour private tour with us. We never mix groups of people and change the stops to fit your family and group. See the National Park in a way you would never experience alone. This three-hour tour is a private tour of the National Park, as much as we can show you. Only about an hour or less is driving; the rest of the time, we will show you past eruptions in the National Park. We meet in the temperate rainforest of the National Park at the Kilauea Visitor Center. Although the Visitor Center is undergoing renovations, it is still the best location to meet. It is the first large building on the right after passing the Ranger booths. The Visitor Center is currently undergoing renovations.

      10 minutes here

    2. Nahuku - Lava Tube

Experience the wonders of this 600+ year-old lava tube and learn how lava tubes form. You will also see a verdant temperate rainforest, rare ferns, secrets of the lava tube, and more. This half-mile walk is full of endemic species of plants and birds. We explain some of the ancient uses of certain plants and their unique development to survive in volcanic areas.

      30 minutes here

    3. Steam Vents

See the geologic phenomenon of the steam vent area at the summit of Kilauea. Learn how these vents were created, what is in the steam, and how the local people get water (if they drill down, they will hit hot rocks). See the local wild orchid and how the steam vents benefited the early travelers to Kilauea's summit.

      15 minutes here

    4. Chain of Craters Road

Chain of Craters Road travels through several past eruptions of Kilauea and many unique lava formations. In only 3 hours we cannot show you all the sites along this dynamic stretch of road. We want to show you as much as we can of different eruptions. It is not possible to list everything we will show you because that can vary with the weather, speed of loading and how sure-footed everyone is. The amount of hiking and traveling across rugged terrain will be adapted to the group's fitness level and ability to walk and load/unload quickly.

Wonderful tour experience and great pictures!

Jodi was knowledgeable and patient with my boys. She is very passionate about the local fauna and the volcano. We had a tantrum that made us run late but despite that she didn’t rush the tour and extended it past the end time so we could see everything we were meant to see. I can’t thank her enough for that. She pointed out so many facts, beautiful plants and fauna. A real treat is that she is a photographer and takes family pictures throughout and they are free to download after! It is invaluable and I’m so glad she was able to capture these memories. I would recommend her and her tour to anyone coming to the big island!

Response from the operator: Thank you, Mehreen, for sharing your wonderful experience! We're thrilled that Jodi provided such an exceptional and accommodating tour, creating lasting memories for your family. Your recommendation means so much, and we hope you visit the Big Island again! Mahalo nui!

    Wonderful tour!!!

We had a wonderful experience with guide Rob, who was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot along the way. He and his partner responded quickly to inquiries and the vehicle was comfortable. He also took pictures for us and provided snacks and bottled water. Since we didn't have a lot of time in the park having an experienced person guide us for a few hours really took the pressure off us to figure things out with 3 young kids. The only sad part was that the weather wasn't go great that day, but we still thoroughly enjoyed our tour.

Response from the operator: Thank you, Carol, for sharing your delightful experience! We're thrilled to hear how much you appreciated our guide Rob's expertise and hospitality. It's wonderful that, despite the weather, you made lovely memories with your family during the tour.

    Excellent Family Tour

Fantastic experience with four grandchildren ages 12-16. Our guide Rog was a wealth of information and he kept four teens engaged and excited the entire time. He also gave us tips for our continuing exploration in the park and area. We have taken many private tours. This was top of the list.

Response from the operator: Thank you, Jared, for sharing your wonderful experience. We're thrilled that Rob made the tour engaging and enjoyable for your family. Mahalo for visiting the Big Island and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with us!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Big Island of Hawaii.

How much does Private Guide Meet In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park cost?

    +

Prices start at $625 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Big Island of Hawaii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Guide Meet In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Big Island of Hawaii is not rushed.

Is Private Guide Meet In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 198 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Big Island of Hawaii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Guide Meet In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Guide Meet In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Guide Meet In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park?

    +

Around 69 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Big Island of Hawaii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Big Island of Hawaii and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Guide Meet In Hawaii Volcanoes National Park start and how do I get there?

    +

What are the best things to do in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

The Big Island is volcano country: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park tours, Mauna Kea summit stargazing, night manta ray snorkels off Kona, Waipio Valley lookouts and coffee farm visits. Summit tours have real altitude rules, so we weight safety detail. On Outty we rank every Big Island of Hawaii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include KONA Manta Ray Night Snorkel - FREE re-ride if no Sightings, Big Island in a Day: Volcanoes Waterfalls Sightseeing and History, Big Island: Captain Cook Snorkel On A Power Catamaran With Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

April to October, though the island runs year round. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
