Very disappointing

Our guide and the tour structure itself was very disappointing. The gourmet tour name, description and the price implies good amount of food and wine tasting. In reality, we had a piece of candy, a macaroon, brioche aux pralines, which we had already had too much sugar to eat more than a bite, a lot of walking then charcuterie and a glass of wine. typically a wine tasting means at least a few different types of wines. Other food tours we’ve done, actually stop at 4-5 stores or restaurant sit down and enjoy what you’re tasting. They has established relationships with the proprietors and they are expecting the group. Along the way, you also learn about the history of the food, neighborhood, etc. This was more history with a few small snacks along the way. Our tour guide was sweet and very thorough but not experienced and didn't speak English well. I had emailed prior that we have seen Old Town and knew the basics as well as sharing this with told our guide at the start of the meeting. She seemed very new and was not able to adapt the tour. She had a script and was sticking to it regardless. I also asked our guide to be conscious of pace as my dad walked slower. She took this to the extreme and walked painfully slow (it literally hurt our backs to walk that slow). Several times, I told her we would walk faster, even my dad asked her to walk faster but she never would. This tour was disappointing and our tour guide a novice. It was definitely not worth the $82/per person we paid. I've tried reaching out directly to Tasty Lyon to discuss but phone goes to voicemail and there is only a contact form on their website that never seems to actually send. I did have another very good tour through Tasty Lyon, so I would like to think this is not the norm.

How much does Private Gourmet Tour of Lyon's Historic Center cost?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 47 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.3/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lyon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

+

Is Private Gourmet Tour of Lyon's Historic Center suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Gourmet Tour of Lyon's Historic Center?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lyon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lyon and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Gourmet Tour of Lyon's Historic Center start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lyon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lyon?

+

On Outty we rank every Lyon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lyon Highlights & Secrets Walking Guided Tour (small group) including Funicular, Vieux Lyon Cultural & Historical Walking Guided Tour (English), Highlights and Hidden Gems of Lyon Guided Walking Tour (English). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lyon?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lyon?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
