What you'll see and do
Thingvellir National Park
Start your adventure at Thingvellir National Park, Iceland’s only UNESCO World Heritage site. Thingvellir is more than a beautiful landscape; it’s where Iceland’s remarkable history began. Back in 930 AD, Icelanders founded the world’s first parliament here, Alþingi, creating a legacy of democracy still alive today. Situated on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Thingvellir is a geological marvel where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart, creating stunning rift valleys. Capture breathtaking photos of rugged cliffs, clear blue waters, and sweeping volcanic plains that stand as witnesses to Iceland’s rich heritage. It’s about an hour’s drive from Reykjavik, with another hour to explore the park’s dramatic cliffs and historic landmarks.
60 minutes here
Next, after a 40-minute drive from Thingvellir, dive into the magical Geysir geothermal area and feel the Earth’s power. Here, Strokkur, a hot spring known for its powerful bursts, propels boiling water over 25 metres high, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle every 8-10 minutes. Spend around an hour wandering the area, feel the ground tremble as superheated water rushes skyward, bringing the heart of Iceland’s volcanic activity right to your feet. Hungry? Take a break at the Geysir Center and enjoy a bowl of traditional Icelandic meat soup – the perfect warm-up before your next stop!

Gullfoss Falls
No Golden Circle tour would be complete without a visit to Gullfoss. A short 15-minute drive brings you to the “Golden Falls,” one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. Witnessing it is truly unforgettable. Fed by the Hvítá River, which originates from the Langjökull Glacier, Gullfoss’s two-tiered drop sends a mist of golden-hued spray up into the air, creating rainbows on sunny days. Give yourself around 45 minutes here to walk along the paths and take in the spectacular views. Take a moment to breathe in the raw beauty, then head over to the Gullfoss Café for some Icelandic refreshments or browse the local souvenir shop for handmade Icelandic keepsakes.

Kerid Crater
Your final stop is the mesmerising Kerid Crater, about an hour and 45 minutes from Gullfoss. This volcanic lake gives you the feeling of peering into the Earth’s hidden secrets. This unique 3,000-year-old crater, with its vivid aquamarine water surrounded by red volcanic rock and lush greenery, creates a stunning visual contrast and is often called “The Eye of the World.” Soak up the vibrant colours and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as you walk along the crater’s rim—and from here, it’s just a one-hour drive back to Reykjavik.

Wonderful trips in August
We went to both trips, Golden Circle and Seljalandfoss. Guys, these are amazing tours! Pick up is really convenient and Kristof is very professional, correct, flexible and funny the same time. Treats the guest friendly and carefully, in the meantime shares tons of interesting information. I really recommend to chose him for your trips!

Why this scores 50
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Golden Circle Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Reykjavik.
How much does Private Golden Circle Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $1,570 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Reykjavik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Golden Circle Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Reykjavik is not rushed.
Is Private Golden Circle Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 50 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Reykjavik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Golden Circle Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Golden Circle Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Golden Circle Tour?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Reykjavik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Reykjavik and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Golden Circle Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Reykjavik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Reykjavik?
+
On Outty we rank every Reykjavik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland, Silfra Snorkeling Between Continents Photos Included- Self Drive, Small-Group Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket & Kerid Crater. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Reykjavik?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Reykjavik?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Private Golden Circle Tour?
+
Included: Air-conditioned vehicle; All Fees and Taxes; Certified Guide; In-person: English; and Shoe Spike Grips (Nov-Mar). Not included: Meals; and Alcoholic beverages. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
Does Private Golden Circle Tour include hotel pickup?
+
Yes, pickup is offered for every traveler from 66 listed pickup locations in and around Reykjavik. Be ready about 30 minutes before the start time. You can also enter a custom pickup address when booking.
What languages is Private Golden Circle Tour offered in?
+
It is offered in English and Hungarian. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.
Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Private Golden Circle Tour?
+
Confirmation is sent by the operator after booking, usually within 48 hours; if it is not confirmed you are not charged. Mobile tickets are accepted, so you can show the voucher on your phone.
What happens to Private Golden Circle Tour if the weather is bad?
