Babulnath Temple
Babulnath Shiva temple is the oldest temple in the city, situated on a small hillock near GirgaumChowpatty. The deity Shiva is in the form of the Lord of the Babul tree. Interestingly! In the initial days, the temple was visited by the yogis who used to stay there for Bhang and Ganja. The interiors of the temple give an illusion of mount Kailash. It is believed to be built in the 12th century by the Hindu King Bhimdev and eventually buried and lost over time. The temple was rediscovered when five idols were dug out, of these idols the idols of lord Shiv, Parvati, Ganesh, hanuman are in the temple but the fifth was immersed in water as it was broken.
