Monastery of Saint Anthony the Great
The Monastery of Saint Anthony is a Coptic Orthodox monastery standing in an oasis in the Eastern Desert of Egypt, in the southern part of the Suez Governorate. Hidden deep in the Red Sea Mountains, it is located 334 km southeast of Cairo. It is the oldest monastery in the world.
120 minutes here
the Monastery of St Paul began as a grouping of hermitages in the cliffs around the site where Paul had his cell. The complex's heart is the Church of St Paul, which was built in and around the cave where Paul lived. It’s cluttered with altars, candles, ostrich eggs (the symbol of the Resurrection) and murals representing saints and biblical stories. The fortress above the church was where the monks retreated during Bedouin raids.

Beautiful tour to St Paul and St Anthony monasteries
The tour was smoothly organised through WhatsApp. We had time to visit each monastery guided by a monk giving details on the history of the Monastery and St Paul and St Anthony. The climb to the cave was nice. Mohamed, our guide for the tour was great, very knowledgeable, speaking French fluently. And the driver was very safe. Thanks to all Kemet Travel team!

Beautiful unforgettable trip!
It has been such a wonderful and truly unforgettable trip, I loved every moment! My guide Ali has been very nice and so helpful, he told me many interesting facts about Egypt and the monasteries during our trip. I really enjoyed visiting both monasteries and speaking with the monks there. The most unforgettable experience was going up to the mountains to visit St. Anthony's cave. Its energy and my experience there will always stay with me. I really hope to visit it again! I would also like to thank Ali for his kind help with my bank card. When we stopped at the petrol station in Cairo in the morning, I wanted to withdraw some cash, but the ATM consumed my bank card and we could not get it back... Ali has been exceptionally helpful with this and got out of his way to sort it out. Very grateful to Ali and Kemet Travel for this beautiful trip and would very highly recommend it! 💛

Fantastic day
I booked this tour through kemet travel under the leadership of Mr Simman, he was so very prompt to answer all my questions and I felt was extremely kind with his concern for my excursion from cairo to the monastery. I was picked up on time by Andrew, who was my guide for the day. The ride takes about 3 hrs, so they arrived around 730am. The first stop is the staircase up to St. Anthony Cave, where he resided,1700 yrs ago, note, lt this is the oldest monastery in the world. The hike takes about 90 min total up and down. It's very hot , you definitely need water and a hat.theres a church on the way up. A monk is in the cave if you want to pray or give a donation. The highlight is the monastery itself. You are given a tour by the actual monks who live there. They were so peaceful(because of whom we serve, The Lord Jesus). They gave so much history of the place. Andrew, my guide, gave extra information. The monastery is a site to see. The 2nd stop was st Paul of thebes monastery. There were more tourists here but it is just nice. I highly recommend this tour, I had an extra day in cairo and booked this tour. You will arrive back at cairo around 6-7, and you are fed a delicious lunch. This was one of the highlights of my 12 day vacation in 🇪🇬 Egypt . I wanted to mention it is safe to travel here and all over Egypt relating to the war with gaza, if that is a concern for you. You also get views of the Red sea Thank you Mr simman and Andrew for an amazing trip to the monasteries. Book with Kemet travel, you will not regret it.

Why this scores 65
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Giza.
How much does Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo cost?
+
Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Giza usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Giza is not rushed.
Is Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Giza, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Giza can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Giza and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Full-Day Red Sea Monasteries Tour from Cairo start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Giza within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Giza?
+
On Outty we rank every Giza experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pyramids Sphinx Camel ATV Bike Shopping and Nile Dinner Cruise, Cairo 8 Hour Private Tour of Pyramids & Grand Egyptian Museum, Pyramids Sphinx and Grand Egyptian Museum Nile Felucca or Bazaar. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Giza?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Giza?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
