    What you'll see and do

    1. Alexandria

Are you ready for an awe-inspiring day? Then let's get to it! Alexandria is one of the world's most impressive historical cities, and certainly a must-see in Egypt, so if you're thinking about doing this day tour from Cairo...what are you waiting for?! It'll take us about a three hour drive from Cairo before our day tour of Alexandria will truly begin, and where better to kick it off than the Catacombs of Kom Ash-Suqqafa. One of the world's largest Roman burial sites, the Catacombs are one of Alexandria's most popular attractions. Watch your head as you descend into a network of underground passages, tombs, and antechambers via aspiral staircase over a three-level labyrinth (seriously cool, isn't it?!). Dozens of chambers with sculpted pillars and statues await your curiosity, as well as a large Roman-style banquet room, where relatives of the deceased traditionally hosted memorial meals. Our next stop is the National Museum, home to Greek and Roman era masterpiece ruins discovered under the water on the shores of Alexandria. Super impressive old stuff right here! We will enjoy an Egyptian local lunch , Alexandria is famous for its fresh sea food (vegetarian and other dietaries will be accommodated). After lunch we will head to the former site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. Although the lighthouse is no longer standing, atop its ruins lie the Citadel of Qaitbay, a defensive fortress built in the 15th century. Designed as a defence along the Mediterranean coastline, the Citadel offers extensive views, fresh Mediterranean air, and a supreme sense of historical significance. Our final stop in Alexandria day tour will be the Alexandria Library. Nerd time! Inspired by the original great library of Alexandria, the modern library was built to hold over eight million books. Built between 1995 and 2002, it covers 11 cascading levels and although it has not yet reached its capacity, it's an impressive homage to the ancient splendour of Alexandria. Pick your jaws up off the ground and explore! As one of Egypt’s most historically significant cities, Alexandria really is a must-see for history and culture buffs. We have no doubt it will leave you enriched, impressed, and perhaps a little awe-struck. Following recent safety incidents we recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest information on travelling in Egypt before your departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all areas of your itinerary.

    Great trip

Our guide Wael and driver Bashandi were both excellent. The day that we’d selected was very foggy in the morning and we were advised that the road could be closed until it cleared and given the option to delay. We elected to continue and were amazed at the good spirits of everyone stuck in the traffic (so unlike the UK!). The journey there didn’t feel as long as it was. Our guide ensured that we still got to see all of the sites on the itinerary and we didn’t feel rushed to miss things due to the traffic delays. Whilst the trip was an excellent day we could have done without the regular WhatsApp messages every couple of days afterwards reminding us to leave a review.

Our TOUR & GUIDE Mohamed was JUST FABULOUS! 🫶

I would like to extend my compliments to Mohamed, our tour guide, and Amro, our driver, for the days tour. I can't thank them enough for their professionalism and nurturing care towards my brother & I.  This is our first time in Egypt from Australia and I am in awe towards Mohameds knowledge and passion towards tourism and the Egyptian history. We received an exquisite and a beautifully unique experience from Mohamed in the last 2 days.  A tour guide can definitely make or break your experience and Mohamed made our experience a delightful one.  Our comfort and experience was his priority and we were heart warmed by his genuine efforts.  I have seen many people from all walks of life in my travel experiences to Bali, Australia, France, America, Mexico, Lebanon, Syria and UAE, together with my profession as a Fraud and Intelligence investigator, and when I come across a genuine person like Mohamed who genuinly loves their job and treats foreigners with kindness, respect and care, they truly deserve a spotlight. I have never received such care for his customers & tourism from any tour guide like Mohamed. Tourism is not just a job for Mohamed, it is a passion and we witnessed his divine knowledge and expertise.  The tour was incredible!! We highly recommend using urban adventures. Mohammad is a great asset. Having Mohamed as your guide makes the experience.  We LOVE Egypt 🇪🇬 and we can't wait to come back!

    Alexandra the Great

We did the private tour of Alexandra. Our tour guide Mina was fantastic! Mina has a wealth of knowledge that he passes on with ease. It also helps that he is super friendly. The sites visited on the tour highlight the old and the modern Egypt. The time in traveling from Cairo is well spent. Highly recommend!

Wonderful day trip, definitely recommend it!

We enjoyed very much our Alexandria Day tour! Our guide Miss Marwa was very knowledgeable, kind, smiley and funny and a very nice company to have for the whole day! We were taken to all the places as promised (despite the crazy traffic!) and had a lovely lunch on a restaurant just on the sea front on the Alexandria Cornish. The van was comfortable and the driver polite. We most certainly recommend this to anyone! We will be using this company again next time we are in Egypt.

Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Giza.

How much does Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip cost?

    +

Prices start at $220 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Giza usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Giza is not rushed.

Is Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 46 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Giza, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip?

    +

Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Giza can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Giza and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private From Cairo: Alexandria Day Trip start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Giza within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Giza?

    +

On Outty we rank every Giza experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Camel, ATV Bike, Shopping & Dinner Cruise, Giza Pyramids VIP Private Tour ATV Camel Inside Pyramid & Lunch, Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Camel Ride, Lunch & Inside pyramids. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Giza?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Giza?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
