A life-changing evening — cooking class, market tour, and two new friends
This wasn’t just a cooking class — it was one of the best experiences of our entire Thailand trip. Benny keeps her classes small on purpose: her whole philosophy is to actually get to know the people who cook with her, and by the end of the night my husband and I felt like we’d made friends for life. The evening started with a market tour, and Benny was endlessly patient explaining everything — herbs, vegetables, fruits I’d never seen before (we tasted so many!), the meat market, even fried toasted worms (which genuinely taste like French fries — try them!). She helped me pick out chili powders, curry pastes, and fish sauce to bring home, with great recommendations for everything. Along the way she taught us so much about Thai food culture — how locals shop and eat at the market, why street food is such a big part of daily life. Then we drove to her beautiful outdoor cooking school just outside the city, with individual cooking stations for each guest. We cooked a full multi-course meal from scratch: appetizers (papaya salad and pomelo salad), mains (pad thai, pad see ew, green curry, and the best khao soi we had in Thailand — better than the restaurant version we’d eaten the day before), and desserts (mango sticky rice — mine dyed purple with butterfly pea flowers — and banana cake). We even made our own chili paste from scratch. Benny’s partner made us wonderful cocktails, including a tamarind “Bloody Benny.” Two things set this class apart. First, they teach you to season to YOUR taste — spicier, sweeter, saltier — so you actually learn to cook Thai food, not just follow a recipe. Second, they adjust the spice to what you can handle: they usually tone it down for Western guests, but when they saw I could eat the whole chili, they happily went full local heat. We left around five hours later, completely stuffed, with a recipe book, an apron, and a taxi ride back to our hotel arranged for us. This is a true local business — two people who trained hard, came home, and built something special with their own hands. My recommendation: tip generously. They earn every bit of it and more.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that the private class and market tour were highlights of your Thailand trip. It was wonderful sharing our local food culture with you. Warmest wishes to you and your husband, and hope to welcome you back someday. Sexy Benny and the kitchen fairies 👩🍳 💕 🧚♂️ 😍

Benny keeps her classes small on purpose: her whole philosophy is to actually get to know the people who cook with her, and by the end of the night my husband and I felt like we’d made friends for life. We booked the private version and at the price she charges I recommend that approach to everyone who can afford it. The evening started with a market tour, and Benny was endlessly patient explaining everything — herbs, vegetables, fruits I’d never seen before (we tasted so many!), the meat market, even fried toasted worms (which genuinely taste like French fries — try them!). Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a wonderful and heartfelt review David. It was an absolute pleasure meeting and cooking with you both. I'm so glad you enjoyed the market tour, the tasting adventures (especially the fried worms!), and that you left with some great ingredients to try at home. Making lifelong friends is truly what I love most about hosting these classes. Hope to see you both again in Chiang Mai! Sexy Benny and the kitchen fairies 👩🍳 💕 🧚♂️ 😍

Loved learning, cooking and experiencing an authentic home and people.
Benny is fabulous. We loved the market walk around learning and buying ingredients for our menu. The welcome at the cooking school and Benny’s home was great. We had a delicous cocktail and then off we went cooking our three courses with some beers to hand. We went for a private class - just the two of us and it was a really memorable evening. Would so recommend to do this with the fabulous Bennyn, Nan and their team.
Response from the operator: Hiiii 👋👋👋 Jayne, Harry how are you? Not sure you are back to the UK already? You must be missing Thai food and the Thai weather, right? Come back to the land of smile again. See you again. Sexy Benny and the kitchen fairies 🙏 😘 ❤️ 👩🍳

Happy Days with Sexy Benny!
We had the best day with Benny and Nan. I loved that we got picked up in one of the local red trucks for a ride to the market. Benny showed us all around the market and got us local treats to try in addition to our grocery list for the class. Cooking class was simple, fun and delicious and we had a great time dining next to the beautiful rice paddy after we fixed our meal (during which they gave us recommendations for the next leg of our trip). If you want to support an excellent small business run by some big hearted folks, book with Benny!
Response from the operator: Hi Justin, thank you so much for your feedback to my cooking class. Hope you all will love the experience. Return to the state safely. I and the fairies hope you all will back to Thailand again. I and Nan will visit you in USA in the future for sure. Big hug from a little girl here. Sexy Benny and the kitchen fairies

Why this scores 72
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chiang Mai.
How much does Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai cost?
+
Prices start at $97 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chiang Mai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chiang Mai is not rushed.
Is Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 44 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Chiang Mai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai?
+
Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chiang Mai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chiang Mai and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Dinner Cooking Class with Benny in Chiang Mai start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chiang Mai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Chiang Mai?
+
On Outty we rank every Chiang Mai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Thai Cooking Class at Organic Farm in Chiang Mai, Full Day Thai Cooking at Farm (Chiang Mai), Thai and Akha Cooking Class in Chiang Mai. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Chiang Mai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Chiang Mai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
