Left in the lurch by Viator tours

We booked this excursion months in advance to take a bus up to Montserrat near Barcelona. The night before we were to go, they sent us a text asking if we could go the following day. We responded that we had to go on the original date since we were flying out the following day. Since they did not respond telling us anything more, we found ( the last 2) seats with another company. So I’ve scratched Viator tours off of my list! I’m still waiting for the almost $200 refund…

Response from the operator: Hi Marion! Thank you for sharing your experience, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you encountered with your tour. We understand how it must have been for you. Please reach out to us at hello@welcomepickups.com with your booking details so we can investigate the issue further. We appreciate your feedback and for letting us know regarding this.

Views and Sites!

We visited the Sagrada Familia and Montserrat guided by Matt, a studied guide. Prior to visiting the Sagrada Familia, we walked "Old Barcelona" visiting Roman ruins, historic Spanish churches down alley-like streets, spacious neighborhood squares plus the 1992 Barcelona Olympic grounds and related venues. The Sagrada Familia was an unbelievable site; the immenseness of the Cathedral was breathtaking as were the towering spires. It was as if we floated from one masterpiece to another; there is so much to absorb. To be fair, one could spend a few days at the cathedral and not view all there is to offer. Our visit to Montserrat required one hour travel into the countryside. The views are spectacular and the imagination wildly considers how the first monks found their way to the location. The "Black Madonna" was seen from a distance from within the church. Of all the chandeliers that graced the church, no two were alike. Rush hour traffic was navigated perfectly by Matt. Plan at least six hours for this tour.

One of my best experiences

Alberto Garcia was our driver and guide. He was amazing. So courteous and thoughtful. Showed us sights on route. Set up everything. Timed it perfectly. Treated us like family! We highly recommend. We had 2 children with us too. Took us to a restaurant we never would have found.

FABULOUS DAY

We were a group of 5 friends, picked up by Micheal at the cruise port and he took us to Monsterrat and winery. He was just great, soon got some Aussie humor going, took us to a great lunch spot, and he made sure we got into the line at the monestary to see the Basicalla, we had to be there by 10.30 before they shut the door. He made sure we did it. Was just the best day, and he dropped us off at our accomadation at the end of the day. thanks Micheal and of course Welcome pickups. this is a great trip for day trips off a cruise boat as well. and very fairly priced.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We appreciate the kind words and are delighted to hear that you had an excellent time on your Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat! We hope to see you again soon in one of our other 53 destinations worldwide!

Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Barcelona.

How much does Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat cost?

+

Prices start at $120 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Barcelona usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Barcelona is not rushed.

Is Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Barcelona, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Barcelona can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Barcelona and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Day Trip from Barcelona to Montserrat start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Barcelona within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Barcelona?

+

Barcelona's Gaudí sites are capacity-limited and the official timed tickets go first, so most of the market is resellers with a guide attached. We weight those heavily on whether the guide is an architecture specialist. Beyond Gaudí, the tapas crawls in Gràcia and the Montserrat day trips carry the highest rankings in the city. On Outty we rank every Barcelona experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Gràcia Tapas and Vermouth Crawl, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel & Cliff Jump from Barcelona, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel, Cliff Jump & lunch Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Barcelona?

+

May, June, September and October. Sagrada Família light is best mid-morning. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Barcelona?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
