Given the Chance, Take this Tour!

If you get the opportunity, make sure you book a tour with Kay! She is engaging and enthusiastic about Charleston, its people, and its history. A former teacher, Kay knows how to keep everyone interested and even has visuals to help you understand the way Charleston developed through time. My sisters and I did a private tour with Kay in the heat of July. Instead of having us walk to the meeting point, she offered to come get us in her car, picking us up at the hotel and keeping us as cool as possible while she led us through town. We have already recommended her to friends and family who live in the area. She's a great tour guide and just a lovely person with whom to spend a day. She got an A++ from our group. Thank you, Kay! We hope to take another tour with you in the future, Millie, Elizabeth, and Lee

Response from the operator: Thanks Lee! It was so much fun to meet you all and learn from you! You all brought a lot of information from all your travels/living abroad and made the tour so much fun! Thanks for letting me show you around Charleston and for the wonderful review. I hope your travels will bring you back soon.

Great little walking tour with a lot of history and fun facts

Kay was great. Clear communication prior to meeting. She has so much knowledge and can easily customize what you're looking to learn abou this beautiful city. Walking is definately the best way to see the city. Only wish our tour could have been longer but our time didn't permit.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for choosing me as your guide! Yes, there is A LOT to see and learn about here-2 hours flys by. I hope your travels will bring you back to Charleston and we can explore more...thanks again!

Fantastic tour of Charleston with Kay Abrams!

Kay Abrams gave us a beautiful tour of historic Charleston! She gave us so much interesting information, and she was a joy to be with. Her passion for giving an informative yet fun tour is evident. My husband and I want our grown kids to do the tour with her when they come to Charleston, too!

Response from the operator: Thank you for choosing me as your guide. I'm so glad you enjoyed the tour and would love for you to come back! You make my job so enjoyable!

    Amazing tour

Our private tour of Charleston was outstanding for our whole group, from teens to older adults. We wanted to focus on Jewish history of Charleston. Kay was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much history, local insight, and interesting details in a fun and engaging way that kept everyone interested. Kay was very accommodating with on-the-go adjustments throughout the tour. We appreciated the perfect balance of detailed information, humor, and flexibility. Highly recommend for families or mixed-age groups looking for a memorable Charleston experience!”

Response from the operator: Thank you! I'm so glad I was able to share the history of Charleston that you were most interested in! There is SO much to talk about in Charleston so I always encourage my guests to ask questions. It was my pleasure to meet you and show you around!

Private customized walking tour of Charleston: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Charleston.

How much does Private customized walking tour of Charleston cost?

    +

Prices start at $350 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Charleston usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private customized walking tour of Charleston take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Charleston is not rushed.

Is Private customized walking tour of Charleston worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 66 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Charleston, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private customized walking tour of Charleston?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private customized walking tour of Charleston suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private customized walking tour of Charleston?

    +

Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Charleston can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Charleston and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private customized walking tour of Charleston start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Charleston within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Charleston?

    +

Charleston's best experiences are small: house museum tours with an architectural historian, Gullah heritage walks, harbour sails at sunset and Lowcountry food crawls through the market district. Plantation day trips vary enormously in how honestly they handle the history, and our ranking factors that in directly. On Outty we rank every Charleston experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Historic Charleston Guided Sightseeing Walking Tour, Charleston historical walking tour with a Professor of History at The Citadel, Charleston Eco Boat Cruise with stop at Morris Island Lighthouse. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Charleston?

    +

March to May and September to November, the two mild shoulder windows. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Charleston?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
