What you get
About this experience
Just 40 km (25 miles) northwest of Ho Chi Minh City lies one of Vietnam’s most remarkable wartime relics—the Cu Chi Tunnels. This massive underground network stretches over 250 km and once connected hidden living quarters, kitchens, storage rooms, weapons factories, field hospitals, and command centers. Originally dug by hand in the 1940s during the resistance against the French, the tunnels were later expanded in the 1960s–70s during the Vietnam War (also known as the "American War"). They became a fully functioning underground city, complete with trapdoors, ventilation systems, and supply routes used by Vietnamese revolutionary forces. On this immersive tour, you'll crawl through narrow passageways, discover hidden bunkers, and hear incredible stories of resilience and survival. It’s a powerful journey into the past—one that offers a unique glimpse into how these tunnels helped shape Vietnam’s fight for independence.

An experience to remember
first time in vietnam i really like to explore history, so i was advised to choose the cu chi tour. everything was beyond my expectations, i could see all the relics that the vietnamese army actually used during the war. i also tried to experience going inside the tunnels and shooting guns, to better understand their life during the war highlight for me was watching the documentary, it was really touching. the trip left me with a lot of emotions and beautiful memories, i rate 10/10 for the way they organized the tour

Excellent tour
We had a great afternoon exploring the tunnels with our guide, Tam. He was very knowledgeable and shared the history of the war. We stopped about halfway there at the most incredible handicapped handicraft workshop where Vietnamese artists create amazing masterpieces using shells and egg shells. These artists are most handicapped because of the result of the pesticides used during the war and the crops that grew after. It was also a good time for a restroom and snack break. At the tunnels, we had the opportunity to go into the tunnels themselves, shown how to use an entryway to conceal yourself, the variety of booby traps and even eat the tapioca that was the main diet of the Viet Cong while they were in the tunnels. There is an opportunity to shoot guns as well if you want. Be prepared for quite a long car ride even though the distance isn’t too far the traffic is astonishing. It was a great experience.
Response from the operator: Dear Matthew_R, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re glad you had a great afternoon exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels with Tam – he’ll be happy to hear your kind words. The stop at the handicraft workshop is always an eye-opening experience, and it’s wonderful that you appreciated the incredible work of the artists there. The tunnels themselves are definitely unforgettable, and it sounds like you made the most of every part of the visit, from learning about the booby traps to tasting the tapioca. Yes, the traffic in and out of Saigon can be quite something, but we’re happy to hear it was worth it for you. Safe travels and we hope to welcome you back on another journey in Vietnam one day!

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ho Chi Minh City.
How much does Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $87 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ho Chi Minh City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ho Chi Minh City is not rushed.
Is Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ho Chi Minh City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ho Chi Minh City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ho Chi Minh City and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Cu Chi Tunnels Half-Day Afternoon Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ho Chi Minh City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Ho Chi Minh City?
+
On Outty we rank every Ho Chi Minh City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Adventure Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta Tour From HCM, Cu Chi Tunnels Small-Group Tour: Vietnam War Underground Network, Cu Chi underground tour - Learn Vietnam war with others. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Ho Chi Minh City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
