Temple of Literature & National University
Start the city tour with a visit to the Temple of Literature. Originally built in honour of Confucius by King Ly Thai Thong in 1070, a university was added to the grounds six years later. The university provided education to the royal family and children of the aristocracy or "mandarins". The University remained here until King Gia Long moved the country's administrative capital from Hanoi to Hue at the beginning of the 19th century.

Hoa Lo Prison
We'll head to the Hoa Lo Prison museum. Used by French Colonists for political prisoners till 1954 and later by North Vietnam for American POWs, the prison complex was sarcastically nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton" by American pilots during Vietnam War (1954-1975). Famous ex-prisoners of war include Pete Peterson (the first US ambassador to a unified Vietnam in 1995), and US Senator John McCain.

St. Joseph's Cathedral
Our next stop will be the largest and oldest church in Hanoi. St Joseph's Cathedral was built in 1886 with an architectural style often compared to the Notre Dame de Paris, this Gothic Revival church is not only a religious site, but is also a popular photo shoot backdrop for local teenagers.

Morning walking tour in Hanoi, Vietnam
We had a great morning on this tour. Picked up at our hotel by Quang and nice driver in air conditioned van, very informative, friendly and relaxed trip around some famous Hanoi sites.A delicous lunch included as well as tea break in a beautiful spot. Highly recommend this tour. Richard and Marianne .

Great first day in Hanoi!
We had such a great time with An on this private tour. She was so knowledgeable and always able to answer our questions! She has such a great love for her country and it made the tour all the more enjoyable! The tour was a great introduction to the city and we got to try Bun Cha (which is our new favourite Vietnamese dish!). An gave us so many great recommendations! 100% worth it if it’s your first time in Hanoi. Thank you so much An!!!

Hanoi city tour March 14th 2026
Chi chin was fun to be with any very informative. We can highly recommend him as a tour guide. Tea cafe was exceptional and wouldn’t have found it without him. He also recommended a place to eat in the evening, in the old quarter. Which was fantastic and so worth waiting to be seated as it was extremely busy.

A great introduction to Hanoi
Took the morning highlights tour with San and it was excellent. A great introduction to Hanoi, Vietnam, the culture, and the people. San was a wealth of knowledge and answered all our questions. He was also able to share personal stories and insights that made the tour really memorable. A great way to start my trip to Vietnam and I would highly recommend this tour.
