Great Tour, Great Guide (Silvia)

This was the very best tour I took in Rome and I was fortunate enough to have Silvia, a professional archeologist, as my guide. Her depth of knowledge of all things Roman was as impressive as her genuine passion and enthusiasm.

Spectacular and informative!

A wonderful tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum, with excellent organisation by City Wonders and the venues, and proving the value of a professional guide. Riccardo from City Wonders was fantastic, being well educated on the subject, interactive and fun, really bringing the spectacle of these special places to life, linking them to the wider social, political and religious history of Rome. Highly recommend!

Best tour of Rome- Hisam our guide, was the ultimate teacher and caretaker

We are still talking about this tour 2 weeks later! Our guide Hisam - the Egyptian guide - was amazing. With 27 years experience in archeology and tours his experience was 3nd to none. The amount of knowledge I walked away with is insane. All of the interesting tidbits kept my ears tuned in the whole time. I felt like a student with their favorite teacher. First, the meet up place was super easy to find and they were exactly where they said they would be. The ear pieces were comfortable and easy to hear him everywhere we went. Before walking to the Colosseum, he made sure we all filled up our water bottles, because Rome in August- the heat is real. Once in line, we realized the value of the skip the line pass. As we passed a line of people waiting forever in the hot sun, we were able to walk right in. The arena floor came to life with descriptions of gladiator slaves fighting to win their freedom (they had to win 20 fights), showmanship of the spectacle of gambling, where the rulers would have sat, and the commoners too. We learned that all the marble was taken from the Colosseum to build St. Peter's Basillica. The stories came to life as we climbed the steps to 2nd terrace to look at the sprawling arena. August heat, was easier to handle with Hisam's care. Everytime he would stop to tell us a story, he would tuck into a shady spot. And all along the way, he was stopping at every water fountain to make sure we refilled. As we left the Colosseum and walked to The Forum/Palantine Hill, again we found people waiting in a long hot sun filled line. We walked past all of them and was immediately granted access to the area. Old Rome came alive as we saw ruins of temples, churches, Vestal House and overlooked it all at the top of Palantine Hill. We arrived at the top at exactly noon, we were amazed at the sound of church bells ringing all across Rome, one of them playing Ave Maria. It was so beautiful. By the end of the tour, we were hot, sweaty, because August beat in rome, but we never felt overwhelmed because Hisam ensure our health and safety every step of the way by pacing his tour to accommodate all of us, making sure we found shade and water every chance he could and was constantly checking in on us. We had other tours during our time in Rome, but we all agreed, we would book with Hisam everytime. He spoke slow so everyone could understand his near perfect English and asked questions to keep us engaged. Do not hesitate to book with City Wonders and ask for Hisam!! Thank you!

Outstanding tour with Silvia

We had a fantastic experience visiting the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill with Silvia. She was extremely knowledgeable, engaging and passionate about Roman history, making everything easy to understand and bringing Ancient Rome to life. She was also very attentive throughout the tour, answered all our questions, and adapted the pace perfectly for our group. Her explanations and visual materials added so much to the experience. Silvia made this one of the highlights of our time in Rome. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent guide!

Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 347 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 72 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour?

+

Around 121 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Guided Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
