5. Yakchunsa Temple

   First-time visitors to Yakcheonsa Temple (藥川寺) are often astonished by the grandeur of its main hall, Daejeokgwangjeon Hall, and the quintessence of Buddhist art. Daejeokgwangjeon Hall, the temple's crowning glory, boasts the largest single-story temple in East Asia. The main hall's ceiling, a staggering 25 meters high, is three-story and houses a large Vairocana Buddha, flanked by Bhaisajyaguru Buddha and Amitabha Buddha. The wooden Buddhist paintings on the temple's back are a rare and exquisite work of Buddhist art, difficult to create and rare to find. Carvings of dragons ascending to heaven, holding a Yeouiju (a jewel in the shape of a yeouiju), adorn the steps to either side of the main hall entrance. Furthermore, the view from Yakcheonsa Temple offers a panoramic view of Hallasan Mountain, one of Jeju's most beautifully curved peaks.
