This is a 4 to 4 1/2 hour private (only your group) cruise through the southern Gulf Islands - Salt Spring Island, Galiano, Saturna, Mayne and the Pender Islands with stops at Salt Spring and Poets Cove on Pender Island. Amazing Private Captain’s Tour of the Gulf Islands
Their private Captain’s Tour was tailored specifically to the things we had requested, and it was an amazing way to see so much more of Vancouver Island on our third trip to Victoria than just the usual land-based attractions. Seeing the Gulf Islands was truly the highlight of our trip. Dieter picked us up at our downtown hotel in his striking white-and-orange VW ID. Buzz EV and drove us about 25 minutes to the boathouse. After a safety briefing and putting on our PFDs (which were much more comfortable than bulky life jackets), we were ready to go. We wanted to share our experience so that others might also have the opportunity to enjoy this incredible tour. We first headed to the village of Ganges on Salt Spring Island, where we explored the shops and enjoyed a delicious lunch at a dockside restaurant. The Salt Spring Island mussels were incredibly fresh—harvested right there! There were also wonderful oysters and other fresh seafood. Heading back out onto the water, we slowly toured Montague Harbour on Galiano Island. From there, we travelled very close to the steep rock faces of the mountains, giving us an incredible close-up view of the unique rock formations. Passing through Active Pass, we encountered three BC Ferries all inside this relatively small passage. As we came out of Active Pass, we could see both Vancouver and the mainland United States in the distance. After boating about 20 minutes south along the outside of Mayne Island, we entered a very small channel and made our way into Horton Bay on the back side of the island. There we discovered a peaceful seaside community and a large sandstone cave. Next, we headed toward Lyall Harbour on Saturna Island and saw another charming little seaside community. There is also a winery on Saturna Island called Sage Hayward, but we decided to save that for a future trip. We then crossed the small channel to the Pender Islands, passing through an unbelievably beautiful channel separating the two islands before emerging into Bedwell Harbour, home of Poets Cove Resort. We stopped there and enjoyed drinks and some delicious desserts on their outdoor patio. Although this was not a whale-watching trip, we were exceptionally fortunate on our way out of the Penders to stumble upon a pod of orcas. Dieter turned off the boat, and we simply waited as the orcas passed by. Wow! What an unforgettable experience. We also had another special request, as one of our family members wanted to go for a short swim. Dieter took us over to Sidney Island and literally beached the boat on the sandy beach, where all of us ended up going for a swim. Of course, the water was cold and refreshing, but it was such a wonderful experience to feel the sand between our toes and jump into the water. We rinsed off using the fresh-water hose on the swim platform before heading back to the marina. Dieter later dropped us back at our hotel, bringing an incredible day to an end. This was the best vacation experience we’ve ever had on Vancouver Island, even after many visits. When we return, we’ll bring more family members and take a different tour with them again! Highly recommended!

Enjoyable day
We had a wonderful day on the water with Dieter and Jackie and learned a great deal about Vancouver Island and the surrounding smaller islands. I highly recommend this boat tour. Dieter took the time to understand our interests and tailored the experience to our wishes, making it both informative and enjoyable. And I need to mention the delicious muffins made by Padhada.

Best adventure Ever
The highlight of our visit to BC was this private day trip on Dieter's luxury Axopar cruising the southern Gulf islands. We had Captain Dieter and the boat all to ourselves. There is both forward and aft outdoor seating, and very comfortable indoor cabin seating and flush toilet and sink. We were already staying at their gorgeous oceanfront B&B from where we drove together to the marina in their beautiful VW ID Buzz. The first leg of the boat tour was to Ganges on Salt Spring island where we enjoyed one of the best open air markets on the west coast. We also ate lunch at one of the dockside restaurants in Ganges. We went on past numerous other islands and small seaside coves and villages. We stopped at Poets Cove and enjoyed some drinks on their dockside patio. Before you knew it the day had passed having had a full day of fun and excitement

Top notch
Highly recommend Birds Of a Feather for an excursion. We booked a day trip for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary and could not have had a better day on the water. Captain Gerhard went above and beyond, taking us island hopping and showing us some amazing scenery. We finished it off by spotting whales on the horizon and pulling ashore at a sandbar. 5 stars all the way.

Take the Captain’s Tour! Best day of our vacation
Our family of 8 took Captain Dieter’s Captain’s Tour. He had told us his tour would be like showing out of town friends his “backyard.” It proved to be that and more. We had perhaps the best day of our BC vacation. While very personable Dieter is also very professional. Our safety was his number one concern. His knowledge of the islands was also very helpful. We stopped for lunch at Salt Spring, and saw several small seaside villages hidden in small coves and harbours, We saw Dalhs porpoises, otters, endless seabirds and Bald Eagles along the way. It was easy to move around the boat’s 3 seating areas and the washroom came in handy. Towards the end of the trip he beached the boat on a sandy beach where we all enjoyed “Caribbean” like sand between our toes. We’ve already booked for next year.
