Great experience, one of the highlights of our trip

Hard to choose a favorite part! My friends loved the market tour where Chef Josh took us to a local market frequented by locals (not the big touristy one) where he personally knew the food vendors and gave us fascinating history on not just the local food itself but on the market system in Barcelona as a whole. After buying fresh seafood at the market, we took a short walk to his kitchen where we had an amazing afternoon having him walk us through the preparation and steps to making an authentic paella. (I’m not great in the kitchen but even I was able to contribute with his guidance.) The dining room was a beautiful space and a wonderful backdrop to the meal we’d just made. We couldn’t believe how delicious our paella was. And we all now have such a greater appreciation for the dish now that we experienced for ourselves how much care and patience goes into it! Chef Josh’s enthusiasm and breadth of knowledge about the local culture (especially the food) made the experience even more enjoyable! We booked this for a special occasion (my friend’s bachelorette) but I would recommend this class to anyone visiting Barcelona who wants a fun and delicious food-centric experience in Barcelona.

Response from the operator: Dear guest, Thank you so much for your incredible review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear how much you and your friends enjoyed your experience with Chef Josh in Barcelona. It sounds like the perfect blend of learning, laughter, and delicious food, and we’re honored that you chose this private class for such a special occasion. Chef Josh’s deep connection to the local market and his passion for sharing the stories behind the ingredients truly bring the experience to life, and we’re so glad that came through. We also love that even those less confident in the kitchen felt empowered to contribute - he’s a fantastic teacher! We hope your newfound appreciation for paella stays with you, and that the memories of that meal continue to bring joy long after your trip. Thank you again for sharing your experience and for being part of the Traveling Spoon family. We can’t wait to welcome you again for another food-filled adventure! Warm regards, Aashi Traveling Spoon Founder

    Paella - Heaven

We had a great time walking around the market and getting to know the culture of Spanish food shopping. We cooked the paella from scratch and had a great time chatting, cooking and tasting :) We can totally recommend this also for kids, our 11 and 15 year old had a great time and participated in cutting and cooking. Thanks Eric for a wonderful morning and paella lunch!

    Best meal of our trip!

Our market tour & paella cooking class with Josh was one of the highlights of our time in Barcelona. Josh did a wonderful job teaching us how to make authentic paella & my son declared it the best meal of our trip (I would have to agree!). The tour of the market was informative as well. Oh, and the sangria was the best I’ve had!

Great time with Josh and cooked a noodle version of paella which was great fun. Nice to have a bilingual host who we could understand completely and intro us to a Barcelona market. Thanks chef josh.

Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Barcelona.

How much does Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh cost?

    +

Prices start at $125 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Barcelona usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Barcelona is not rushed.

Is Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Barcelona, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Barcelona can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Barcelona and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Barcelona Market Tour & Paella Cooking Class with Josh start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Barcelona within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Barcelona?

    +

Barcelona's Gaudí sites are capacity-limited and the official timed tickets go first, so most of the market is resellers with a guide attached. We weight those heavily on whether the guide is an architecture specialist. Beyond Gaudí, the tapas crawls in Gràcia and the Montserrat day trips carry the highest rankings in the city. On Outty we rank every Barcelona experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Gràcia Tapas and Vermouth Crawl, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel & Cliff Jump from Barcelona, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel, Cliff Jump & lunch Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Barcelona?

    +

May, June, September and October. Sagrada Família light is best mid-morning. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Barcelona?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
