What you get
About this experience
Everyone always wants to jump on and ride fast when they’re with horses, and that’s exactly what our advanced ride is for. Experienced riders can kick up the energy a little and have a horseback adventure in a truly spectacular natural setting—Oahu’s North Shore. Guided by one of our wranglers, you’ll strike out onto technical trails and across open pastures, passing grazing cows who just might sneak a peek to see your skills! This ride involves trotting and cantering, and it’s important that all participants have previous riding experience. Wranglers will assess riding skills and will base the pace of the ride on the skill level of the least experienced rider in the group. Our wranglers are well-trained and ready for anything, so as long as you have the horse skills needed, you’ll have a fun and safe experience.

Best guided trail ride ever!
My daughter and I absolutely loved our private advanced ride with Beth! She was super knowledgeable and a fantastic guide, telling us the history of the ranch, all about its horses and their practices, and about the local plants and animals! We were able to trot and canter quite a bit and the horses were tip top! We would highly recommend this ride to anyone looking for more than just a trail walk. Best guided tour ever!
Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind review! The Advanced Ride is lots of fun with Beth. We are so glad to hear you had a great visit to the ranch! We hope you will return for another ride!

Visit this ranch!
Wow! Best ranch ride ever. Gunstock Ranch is a legacy forest ranch, beautifully preserved, and they take care of their horses, wranglers, and guests. We signed up for the advanced ride and were not disappointed. Conner, our fantastic wrangler, evaluated us fairly and took us to his favorite spots on the ranch. Plenty of time to stretch the horses' legs, and very little nose-to-tail riding. What a treat!

Highly recommended, we will be back.
What a beautiful way to spend a morning. The trails & views were the best. Ocean was our guide and she was absolutely amazing. Mowgli & Nui were the sweetest. We will definitely be back. Thank you for the memories made today! J&D
Response from the operator: We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your private advanced trail ride with Ocean, Mowgli, and Nui! Hopefully, we will see you around the ranch again! Mahalo for your visit.

Thank You Devin!!!! You were so awesome and cute
First of, I want to say that I have done the sunset horseback riding with my boyfriend in late February 2025 and went back to Hawaii in the beginning of October 2025 and booked the advanced trail and got to ride the best horse ever, Remington!!! He’s the best horse to ride at Gunstock. My wrangler Devin was so sweet, fun, patient, and personable and the perfect wrangler for an introvert like me. If you love horses, and love to go horseback riding, this is the place to go!!!
Response from the operator: Remi and Devin are fan favorites around here, so glad you had a great experience! We hope you come again, third time is the charm! Mahalo!

Private Advanced Trail Ride
I had a private advanced ride at Gunstock Ranch and it was absolutely amazing! My guide Lon put so much effort into making the tour unforgettable. We galloped through the forest and enjoyed a stunning view of the ocean. I rode Bud, a very well-cared-for and reliable horse. You can immediately tell how well the horses are treated here. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a true horseback riding adventure in Hawaii!
Response from the operator: I'm so glad that you enjoyed your advanced trail ride with Lon and Bud! They are a great pair. Thank you for coming by, hopefully we can see you around these parts soon.

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Advanced Trail Ride: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oahu.
How much does Private Advanced Trail Ride cost?
+
Prices start at $216 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oahu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Advanced Trail Ride take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oahu is not rushed.
Is Private Advanced Trail Ride worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 57 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oahu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Advanced Trail Ride?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Advanced Trail Ride suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Advanced Trail Ride?
+
Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oahu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oahu and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Advanced Trail Ride start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oahu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oahu?
+
On Outty we rank every Oahu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Oahu: Full or Half Day Grand Circle Island Tour, Oahu Small-Group Circle Island Tour with Turtle Snorkeling, Pearl Harbor Remembered Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oahu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oahu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
