James was Awesome and Very Knowledeable

We did a 3 hour private walking tour of Edinburgh as our first tour on the trip. This helped us get a great overview of this wonderful city and note any more places we wanted to visit or go back to later on for a more in-depth experience. The tour included tickets to Edinburgh Castle and was perfectly designed to be the last stop and in time for daily firing of the cannon at 1 pm. Standing among 1000s there for the firing, James has an app that was perfectly synched to it and his 5 second quiet countdown was spot on! As the tour ended, we were able to spend a couple of more hours there on our own, and there is much to see inside the castle confines! James walked us down Princes Street, on to various landmarks all through Old Town with a great stroll down Grassmarket and many other famous streets/places. He was great to talk with, very helpful in offering key recommendations for restaurants and other sites that no one else but a local would know, and we were glad to take him up on his recommendations for things like restaurants, pubs, other sights like Greyfriars cemetary (gotta do this at night; interesting and creepy fun!). Thanks again to James for a memorable experience! Tipping about 10% is not expected but customary for Scotland tours.

Adventures with Alice

If you are fortunate enough to explore Edinburgh Castle with Alice, you have enjoyed an incredible experience with a true expert. From the meet on the Royal Mile, Alice guided us into the majestic gate, around the Keep, through structures and ended in a beautiful courtyard, a complete walk-through the site’s history. From B.C to Modern times, Alice provided key details to understand this impressive place through the ages. Our two-hours with Alice ended too soon; we will be looking for her next time we are in the area.

Response from the operator: Dear Michael, thank you so much for your awesome feedback! We are so glad that you had a wonderful experience with Alice as your guide. It sounds like her expertise and professionalism really left a great first impression on you. We will be sure to pass on the kind words to Alice. She will be thrilled to hear that you had a positive experience with her as your guide. We hope to welcome you back in another Travel Curious adventure in the future. Happy exploring!

Gwen is the best

I hope this is the right place to talk about the stellar job Gwen did on our tour. She dressed and spoke the part and was simply delightful and very good to answer questions and help me find a post box for my postcards. We did part of the tour on the Collette tours bus, and then she walked us down to the castle and filled us full of good information and recommendations. I don’t ever want to forget her.

Response from the operator: Dear Melissa, thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are so happy that you had an incredible time with Gwen as your guide. It sounds like her knowledge and professional demeanour made a great impression on you and enriched your tour. We will be sure to pass on the kind words to Gwen. If you have any photos that you captured during your tour we would love to see them! they would inspire other travellers' to go on the tour with Gwen as their guide. We hope to welcome you back on another Travel Curious adventure in future.

Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.

How much does Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.

Is Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour?

+

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour?

+

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private 4h Walking Tour in Edinburgh with Edinburgh Castle Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?

+

On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Edinburgh: Loch Ness, Glencoe and The Highlands, Edinburgh: Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glencoe & Fort William, Edinburgh Ghost Tour: Mysteries, Legends and Murders. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Edinburgh?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
