Zamek Lednice
The fairytale castle in Lednice is a very popular attraction, as is the park next to it. In the mid-19th century, the castle was completely rebuilt in the Gothic style as we see it today. The surrounding large landscaped park is a great place for walks and relaxation. Smaller buildings such as St John's Castle, the Minaret and the Temple of Diana are scattered throughout. The park links the two castles of Lednice and Valtice. It is also a great place for wine tasting. Moravian wine is renowned for its unique taste and quality. The interior of Lednice Chateau is also impressive. Its interiors include beautifully decorated representative halls, private suites and children's rooms. It also houses the Museum of Puppets. Next to the castle is the Greenhouse, which is also worth a visit.

Its interior now houses the Regional Museum, where you will find the most comprehensive local exhibition of winemaking and wine production, including a unique giant wine barrel. You can also visit the castle library. The town itself has a beautiful historic centre with many restaurants and shops. It is surrounded by three rocky peaks. On the Goat Tower there is an old tower that was used to protect the original castle. Holy Hill is a nature reserve with a romantic pilgrimage chapel of St. Sebastian. Kreuzenstein Castle
Kreuzenstein Castle, near Leobendorf, has impressive architecture reminiscent of medieval castles. Interestingly, it was built in the 19th century. The original 12th-century castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and has been in ruins ever since. Its later owner, Count Wilczek, bought parts of medieval buildings from all over Europe to make the castle look authentic. The castle houses a museum and has become a popular film location. The castle can be seen in films such as 1912's The Miracle, 2019's Netflix series The Witcher, and dozens of other films. During the tour you will see the castle kitchen with the table around which the building was built. You will also visit the chapel, the knights' hall and the prince's room with its medieval furniture.

Fantastic tour, Great wines!
We were staying in Vienna and wanted to visit Czech Republic, but not go all the way to Prague. This was a great option. Our tour guide, Tomas, was fantastic. A Czech native, he talked almost the whole way about the history and culture of the region. We visited three areas. First was Valtice, an old castle owned by Liechtenstein royal family. We toured the castle, which was beautiful. Then we went to taste wine. They had hundreds of wines, and they had a unique system where you paid by the time and could taste as much wine as you wanted. We ended up spending an hour tasting wine and bought three bottles. Learned a lot about Czech varietals. Second castle was Lednice, we walked through grounds and had a coffee break. Third castle was Mikulov, up on top of hill with amazing views. They had several options for tours, we ended up looking at the old Roman artifacts. Then we had wine and food in the main town square. Amazing day overall.
Response from the operator: Dear Marianna, thank you for sharing such a wonderful and detailed review of your day in South Moravia. We are delighted that Tomas’s knowledge of Czech history and culture added so much to your journey through Valtice, Lednice, and Mikulov. It sounds like you found a perfect balance of beautiful castles, local wines, regional history, and time to enjoy the spectacular surroundings. We are especially pleased that the wine tasting introduced you to Czech varietals and became such a memorable part of the experience. This combination of local insight, flexibility, and relaxed discovery is exactly what we aim to provide at Europe Journey. Thank you for choosing us, and we would be delighted to welcome you on another journey through Central Europe.
