What makes this experience special? These aren’t recipes created for tourists — they come from a real Portuguese family kitchen. Inspired by Avó Lurdes, grandmother of The Kitchen’s founder, Joana, this class celebrates home, family, warmth and generosity. These recipes have been shared around our family table for generations. You’ll discover Portuguese cuisine beyond restaurant menus, including comforting dishes that families cook at home but visitors rarely have the opportunity to taste. Dessert carries a piece of family history: Avó Lurdes’ original handwritten Chocolate Salami recipe is proudly framed in The Kitchen. Around our shared table, food is accompanied by Portuguese wines carefully selected to pair beautifully with the dishes. This isn’t about fine dining or complicated techniques. It’s about discovering Portugal through the food we grew up with and something at the heart of our culture: welcoming people, feeding them well and bringing everyone together around the table.

Great atmosphere
It was a great atmosphere, very friendly; I expected more from the cooking itself. There were scrambled eggs with tomatoes, salad, a sandwich with marinated meat, and fries. Milk pudding. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed it and it was very sociable.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for visiting The Kitchen, Yvonne. It was a real pleasure to welcome you 😊 We would just like to clarify that all the dishes served during the experience are traditional Portuguese recipes — and not just “any sandwich”! We are talking about the famous Bifana, one of Portugal’s most iconic street food dishes, which many visitors actually struggle to find in authentic form in restaurants. We’re very happy to hear you still enjoyed the atmosphere and the social side of the experience. Best wishes, Joana G.

A joyful way to honor Potuguese tradition and share a amazing meal with friends!
Nested in historical Lagos, the Kitchen is all we could have wished for! Filipa and Gabriela, our hoastesses, received the four of us with open arms, hugs and smiles! The setting is bright, friendly and soon gives you the feel you're cooking at a friend's house, preparing a family recipe! What a joy! The amount of time for the whole experience is perfect; and did I say with plenty of amazing Portuguese wine?! The recipes were simple and feasible, and the outcome .... oh, the outcome!! My favorite was really the "arroz doce," (a desset I must say I could not stand before this time!). Filipa, the chef, immerged us in her family history and her love for her grandmother, a joyful way to honor tradition and share the sacred time of a meal! Thank you, Filipa! Best wishes and all our love!
Response from the operator: Dear Ana, Thank you so much for your beautiful words – your review truly warmed our hearts! We're thrilled to hear that your time at The Kitchen felt like cooking at a friend’s house. That’s exactly the experience we aim to create – one filled with warmth, connection, and delicious memories. Filipa and Gabriela were absolutely delighted to host you and the group, and I know they'll be touched to hear how much their presence meant to you. It’s wonderful to know that our humble “arroz doce” won you over – especially coming from someone who didn’t usually enjoy it! That’s the magic of comfort food, made with love and tradition. Thank you for choosing to spend this time with us. You're always welcome back at The Kitchen – there will be open arms, more hugs, and definitely more wine waiting for you! With gratitude, Joana Glória

Delicious traditional cooking class with friends
We had a fabulous time learning all sorts of useful tips as we were guided to help make a delicious three course meal. Filippa and Joanna couldn’t have been more welcoming and we would thoroughly recommend this activity for all ages and levels of ability. The venue is perfectly designed and equipped for the class and you could participate as much (or as little) as you preferred. Lovely small class size of like minded individuals. Hope to try another of their classes next time!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! It was a real pleasure having you in our kitchen. We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the experience, picked up some useful tips, and felt at home with us. Filipa and I had a great time cooking with you, and we truly appreciate your recommendation. We’d love to welcome you back for another class next time you’re in town! Best wishes, Joana Glória

When in Portugual……
My husband and I went together as we heard about this from friends. The Studio was beautiful, everything was organized well, we worked together to cook and loved to hear the stories about Phillipa (our instructor) and her grandmother. The meal itself was great and we look forward to receiving the recipes of what we cooked together. A beautiful session and 2 hours together. It was a little difficult to find so better to find parking and then walking there.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review — we’re delighted to hear that you and your husband enjoyed the experience and joined us based on a friend’s recommendation! It’s wonderful to know you appreciated the space, the organization, and especially the stories Filipa shared about her grandmother — they’re a special part of what makes our sessions so personal and meaningful. We’re also happy to hear you enjoyed the meal you cooked together. The recipes will be on their way to your inbox very soon, so you can recreate the experience at home! Thank you for your feedback regarding the location — we understand it can be a bit tricky to find, and we’ll be sure to include clearer directions and parking suggestions in future communications. Wishing you many more delicious moments ahead, and we hope to welcome you back sometime soon! Best wishes, Joana Glória

Is Portuguese Grandma’s Recipes Cooking Class in Lagos worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Lagos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lagos?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lagos?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
