This fort was the largest of the three in Portobelo. It is strategically located next to the Royal Customs House, which was the accounting house of the Spanish Treasury. It had more than 20 cannons and has beautiful views of the bay. The current fort was rebuilt in 1774, as the older structure was attacked by Henry Morgan before its completion, and then again in 1739 by Edward Vernon. Entry is free and you can stroll slowly and enjoy the beautiful views that the fort presents.

Tour Playa Blanca Venas Azules
Venas Azules has become one of the most popular places in Panama. Venas Azules is an estuary. The color of its name can be seen from above, and the photos that have been taken with a drone are what make us go to see this place, however, from below it is beautiful, although it does not look so bluish. They are channels of crystal clear waters surrounded by mangroves.

Not an English speaking guide
We were very excited for this tour. When the driver picked us up, we learned that he would also be our guide. Which is cool, but he did t speak very much English. We had no communication ahead of time on what to bring or what order we would be doing things. We ended up going on the boat tour and to the beach first. It was awesome but the boat driver was talking Spanish to our guide and telling him the history of the area but the driver didn’t relay any of this to us. The beach didn’t have a clean area to change. It was a beautiful beach and we had a great time but it would have been nice if the guide could communicate better (the tour did say English speaking guide). After the beach, we returned to Portobello where the guide struggled to tell us the sites we were seeing. My husband and I made the best of it and looked things up on Google. We did enjoy ourselves and would recommend it for the things we did.
Response from the operator: Thank you for choosing our tour and for sharing your experience with us. We’re very glad to hear you still enjoyed the destinations. We sincerely apologize for the communication issues and any inconvenience this may have caused. Your feedback is very important, and we’ll use it to keep improving our service.

Friendly guide who drives safely as well
From the moment he walked up to introduce himself, Alfonso made us feel comfortable. He has that kind of personality, I can’t describe it. My husband and I almost never go on organized tours, and not private tours at all, but given that we know so little about this part of the world and didn’t want to drive here, it made sense. Alfonso knows a lot about his country, not only the touristic aspects, and is an interesting person himself. He was very flexible in terms of adjusting our itinerary and to the very rainy weather which made beach conditions unviable. He was an excellent driver in the very wet and windy road conditions. I have been told and seen reviews that many tour drivers don’t drive safely, and we felt entirely safe with Alfonso the entire day. I hope to use his tour services again next time we are in Panama.

Wonderful off-the-beaten path tour!!
A great tour. Wonderful balance of history and beach time. I was particularly impressed with the choice of Playa Blanca. It was a beach with a local vibe and not crowded. The guide seemed to have really thought about the overall experience of the tour and did not just take you to tourist traps. This is definitely not a cruise ship style shore excursion with hordes of tourists. I really appreciated that.

Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Panama City.
How much does Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama cost?
+
Prices start at $94 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Panama City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Panama City is not rushed.
Is Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Panama City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Panama City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Panama City and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Portobelo History & Beach Private Tour in Colon Panama start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Panama City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Panama City?
+
On Outty we rank every Panama City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tour to a waterfall and Embera village with lunch included, Panama Canal With Entry Ticket & City Tour: Old Town & City Views, Legends of Casco Viejo Tour: Hidden Gems with Panama Vibes Tours. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Panama City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Panama City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
