    RUDE tour guide

During summer all the sights are busy. Everyone wants to see what they came to see….but a little patience goes a long way. Our tour guide got in an altercation over whose group gets in the door first, and got access cut off completely to another group just so she could be right. Don’t book with this company!

Chio was our tour guide. Super kind and informative. Then we had a wonderful lunch with wine tasting. Fabulous. Manny our waiter was awesome. Praying I get a chance to do this again.

Herculaneum and Pompeii in a day!

We were upgraded to the full day tour which included Herculaneum and Pompeii with an archaeologist (Michael). It was great to do both in one day and to be guided by someone with so much knowledge. Safely driven between sites in the crazy Naples traffic too, by Antonio, with a lunch stop at a shopping mall. Fab day out! We learnt so much and saw all the main attractions at each site. We would probably go to Pompeii again sometime as you could easily spend all day there. Would recommend this tour though. Had a fab time!

    Not so good

This is a long review: We purchased a Small Group Pompeii Tour (with bus transfers) departing from Napoli Centrale for 4 people, starting at 9:45 am, for a total of €299.98 (including fees). I received a call while touring the Colosseum, saying that my tour had changed to 10 am without bus transfers. It happened less than 24 hours before the tour. So, I cannot cancel it because I won't get any refund from them. They refunded me €60. Then after we came back from Italy, I emailed them requesting another €40 because the Tour with an Archaeologist is only €49.50/person. They did refund me €36.20 only, saying fees were not included in the refund. We had planned everything accordingly. We bought fast train tickets from Rome arriving in Napoli Centrale at 9 am. So lucky that the Circumvesuviana is available at 9:20 am. That day was like an Amazing Race to us, trying to get to Circumvesuviana! What if we arrived after 9:20 am? Of course, we'll miss the tour & get zero refund! Askos have no consideration for the trouble they gave us. Our guide, Jolanda is nice but I doubt she's an archaeologist. She didn't give us the story like what an archaeologist would give. I hate the earphone. It distracted me. We were about 25 people (not a small group). This is what happened when purchasing a tour with an unreliable agent. They will put you into other tours when the number of people doesn't meet their targets. The tour was not engaging & moved quickly from one place to another. We covered a bit of Regio I, but mostly at VII & VIII. The tour ended after 2 hours at the Grand Theatre Regio VIII. We get to explore Pompeii on our own after that. But we didn't. We have to go back to Napoli Centrale to explore Napoli, then ride the train back to Rome. I regretted doing this tour with Askos. We should have done it by ourselves & just picked a guide outside Porta Marina.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We truly value your feedback and the opportunity to clarify what happened. First of all, we sincerely regret that we were unable to operate the Pompeii tour with bus transfers from Naples as originally planned. Unfortunately, an unexpected issue with the vehicle arose the day before the tour. As soon as we were informed, we contacted you to provide an alternative solution. The only possible option was to reach Pompeii independently, together with a refund for the transfer service. Naturally, had you preferred not to proceed under these revised conditions, we would have issued a full refund, as the inconvenience was entirely on our side. Regarding the refund amount, there was an initial calculation mistake, which our team promptly reviewed and corrected by issuing an additional reimbursement. In the end, you were charged only for the Pompeii walking tour itsel and apologise for the initial miscalculation. As for the group size, please let us point out that the tour ran with 20 participants and two children, which is in line with the “small group” format clearly indicated in the tour description. We are truly sorry that the overall experience did not fully reflect your expectations. Our aim is always to provide well-organized, engaging, and high-quality tours, and we regret that on this occasion you felt differently. Your feedback is important to us and will be carefully considered. Thank you again for sharing your experience.

    Ride Together? Tour Together!

We took the small group Pompeii tour with guide. The driver, Luigi, was friendly and professional, and this rating is not so much a reflection on him or the marvelous tour guide, Anna, HOWEVER, two differently scheduled tour groups were booked as part of this pick-up/drop-off. This meant that since our tour ended at 12:30 and the other group's tour ended at 1:00, we were left waiting in the car for them. Add on the fact that they were a half hour late, to meet our pick-up driver, we sat for almost :45 minutes waiting. Time that could've been spent exploring more of the ruins. Luigi called the group and did what he could (we suppose), but it would've been better if the pick-up/drop-off were all for the same time slots. Im sure the other group was inconvenienced as well, since they had to wait longer for their tour to start.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your kind words about the tour, our guide, and our driver — we’re truly glad you enjoyed the experience. We would like to clarify that the tours were not scheduled at different times. Unfortunately, on that day there was an unexpected delay at departure due to an on-site logistical issue, combined with a last-minute health emergency involving one of our guides. This situation was beyond our control and caused a slight shift in timing, as we needed to ensure the best possible service for both groups. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please be assured that this is not typical of our operations and was an exceptional circumstance. We’re delighted to hear that you appreciated both the guide and the driver, and we hope to welcome you again in the future. regards Askos tours team

Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.

How much does Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples cost?

    +

Prices start at $89 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.

Is Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Pompeii Small Group Excursion From Naples start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Naples?

    +

On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Naples?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Naples?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
