READ THIS REVIEW! DO NOT BOOK!
This is basically just a taxi and the wine visit. Pompei is not part of the “tour”. Vesuvius is not part of the “tour”. We had to pay hundreds extra on top of the 700 we paid for this “tour”. The driver is not a guide and didn’t speak more than a few words of English. He wasn’t sure where exactly we were even supposed to go. This is definitely not worth the money. You could hire professional black car service to take you to Pompei or Vesuvius for this price instead of the beat up taxi we went in.

Complete waste of money
This is a complete waste of money. We paid almost €400 for the experience (there were 2 of us) but they only things included were the lunch with wine and the driver. The lunch with wine can be purchased separately for €35 each (€70) which means we paid over €300 for the driver. He was amazing but it’s completely overpriced. We were only travelling from Sorrento. The tickets to Pompeii weren’t even included. The ‘3 course lunch’ advertised was dreadful. The starter was a plate of meat and cheese thrown together. The pasta course was awful - completely tasteless spaghetti with a few cherry tomatoes. The pasta wasn’t even cooked - it was rock hard. The meatballs were freezing. And then the dessert was a bland cake. The ‘wine tasting’ was 5 minuscule wines. I know tasting glasses are small but this was ridiculous - it wouldn’t even have amounted to a small glass combined. The ‘local olive oil and wine vinegar tasting’ was literally someone pouring oil onto a plate and then adding a little bit of wine vinegar. That’s it! Laughable. Really regrettable experience and expenditure. Choose another tour with better value for money!
Response from the operator: Dear Franz, Thank you for your review, it's also important for us to know our visitors feedback. We are sorry to see that the price of this tour made you angry, we want to point out that ours is one of the cheapest compared to other excursions, and you got to see the price before booking, so why did you book if for you was it too expensive? all inclusions and exclusions are listed at the time of booking, evidently you have not read carefully. In addition, lunch in the cellar is included. 99% of our visitors are happy with our tours and we realize that occasionally someone gets unhappy, unfortunately in this world we can't make everyone happy, but you could be if next time you read carefully before booking the tours. everything else you wrote is just dictated by your anger. we wish you to live a peaceful and happy life.

Great time!
Entire tour was great! Mario our driver sang opera songs the entire ride. Great experience! Wine and food was excellent!

Exceptional
Alfonso was our tour guide and was terrific. We ended up with a completely private tour for our party of three. Alfonso gave us full choice of what order we did the tour in - due to weather it made the most sense to try Vesuvius in case of closure and we had the volcano to ourselves for the first hour! On our way down, other tour groups started to come through - it was terrific having the place to ourselves (views are worth the ~20 min hike to the top). We then went to Pompeii and were amazed at the size of the ruins. Lunch and wine were terrific. The real highlight was the tour company - definitely pleased with our choice and felt fortunate to have received such a helpful and funny driver. Grazie Alfonso!

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sorrento.
How much does Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer cost?
+
Prices start at $169 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sorrento usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sorrento is not rushed.
Is Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.6/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Sorrento, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sorrento can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sorrento and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Pompeii Ruins & Wine Tasting with Lunch on Vesuvius with Private Transfer start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sorrento within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Sorrento?
+
On Outty we rank every Sorrento experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pizza School with Wine and Limoncello Tasting in a Local Farm, Private Amalfi Coast Day Tour from Sorrento or Naples, Sorrento Farm and Food Experience including Olive Oil, Limoncello, Wine tasting. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Sorrento?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Sorrento?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
