About this experience
During this day we will try to introduce to you the philosophy and history of this ancient and beautiful city Plovdiv. The locals are calling this way of thinking “Aylak”. There is no single definition of this word but in general, it means “Don’t Worry, Be Happy“. You will have guided visits to the main historical sites in the old part of Plovdiv, including some interesting museums. In the afternoon, you will enjoy the unique atmosphere of the city in the part called “The trap” where you will try a good local craft beer and relax. When we finish with the Old town we will continue our adventure toward the oldest brewery in Bulgaria. It was established in 1881 and still is one of the biggest beer producers in Bulgaria. We will visit their craft microbrewery, situated in the remains of the old production facilities. You will have the chance to taste their best beers, to have a guided visit to the production area, and to have a great lunch in their restaurant.

What you'll see and do
Plovdiv Old Town
The tour starts with pick up from your hotel/accommodation in Sofia. After approximately an hour and a half drive, we will reach Plovdiv. Plovdiv is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe. The city has cultural and economic significance both in the past and in the present due to its strategic location. Pieces of evidence of its millennial history can be found all over the place – from the Roman Theatre to the Ottoman mosques. This is the reason why Plovdiv is one of the most charming sights in Bulgaria- wherever you look you will find history, a legend from different period, traces of glorious past and at the same time, it’s a pleasure to see how vivid is it still and how it continues to develop and writes its new history. There we will visit the highlights – the Roman Theatre, the Roman Stadium and have a walk in the Old Town with typical for the Revival Period house museums and narrow cobblestone streets.

Culture, beer, fun, and ZELE!!!
I really enjoyed this tour. I learned so much about Bulgarian history and culture, while enjoying some great beers!!! I would highly recommend this tour to any beer lover who would also like to get to know Bulgaria and/or Plovdiv specifically. Walking wasn't strenuous and this is coming from someone with two torn knees but it is a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes. My tour guide was so helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. I am most definitely going to book this tour again when I come back to the area. P.S. When trying a beer from Pelta Brewing, I recommend Donkey Hot a triple fruited gose. Very tasty and refreshing. Donkey Hot has a cute cartoon label. Also Donkey Hot is a play on words of hot ass, not sure why that went over my head at the time. Probably because I was a few beers in :)

Great Plovdiv day trip
Highly recommended tour when in Sofia. Main focus is on history of Sofia and Plovdiv. I got an excellent overview of Bulgaria from pre historic times to today. The tour of the different parts of Plovdiv was very comprehensive. In addition to history, a great stop at one of the best breweries in Bulgaria, including a personal tour and tasting. If looking for a fun way to see Plovdiv, this was perfect!! Mato specifically was fantastic, answered all my questions from modern day pop culture to ancient day Thracia.

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sofia.
How much does Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $106 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sofia usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sofia is not rushed.
Is Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Sofia, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sofia can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sofia and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Plovdiv-History and Craft beer Small Group Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sofia within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Sofia?
+
On Outty we rank every Sofia experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communist Walking Tour of Sofia, Sofia Highlights 2 Hour Sightseeing Walking Tour, Sofia Escape Room - Teorema Rooms. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Sofia?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Sofia?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
