Wonderful 1000/1000

It was wonderful that we had cooking class at Ali's house. It was very good experience to see Uzbekistan house, how they live. We met Ali's family; they are all very nice and welcome us. Our cooking class took many hours, so we had a great conversation that we exchanged. After Plov done, we ate together also his mom cooked soup that was great together. Thank you.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We hope to welcome you back to Uzbekistan again soon. 🙏

Excellent plov cooking class/demonstration

This tour was one of our favourite tours during our trip to Uzbekistan. The tour started at the bazaar, where Ali showed us around while buying some ingredients for the plov. Then his brother drove us to his home, which is perhaps 10 minutes from the city centre. He and his family had prepared some snacks, we started cooking the plov, and we had nice chats about Uzbekistan, its culture and daily life. Ali speaks good English and made us feel very welcome in his home. The food was delicious too!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review! 🌸 We’re glad you enjoyed the cooking experience and felt at home with us. Hope to see you again in Samarkand! 🙏✨

Great plov cooking demonstration

We enjoyed this tour a lot. The tour started at the bazaar, where Ali showed us around while buying some ingredients for the plov. Then his brother drove us to his home, which is perhaps 10 minutes from the city centre. Response from the operator: Dear Michel and Cally, Thank you so much for your kind review! It was a real pleasure to welcome you into our home and share a taste of Uzbek hospitality. I’m glad you enjoyed the food, the conversations, and the time together. You will always be welcome back — next time we’ll cook and enjoy even more traditional dishes! Warm regards, Ali

Unforgettable Plov + Cultural Experience with Ali

Highly recommend this fantastic experience with Ali. We started with a visit to the bazaar where he explained the various ingredients, as well as the unique regional differences and preferences. From there, we were invited to a private home, where we had a chance to not only learn how to make the national dish of plov, but more about the culture, lifestyle, and customs of Uzbekistan. I appreciate how knowledgeable, open, informative and friendly Ali is. After we finished making plov, Ali and his family put out an incredibly delicious spread of food and beverages for our Uzbek meal. This visit is definitely a highlight of my time in Uzbekistan!

Response from the operator: Dear Monica, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I’m delighted to hear that you enjoyed the visit to the bazaar, the plov cooking experience, and learning more about Uzbek culture. Your kind words about my family and me mean a lot. We always try to make our guests feel at home, and I’m happy this experience became a highlight of your time in Uzbekistan. You are always welcome back — and next time, we’ll cook something new together! Warm regards, Ali

Amazing experience that is so culturally immersive

Wow! What an absolutely amazing immersive experience with Ali and his family. Ali picked me up from my hotel and we went to the market and then to his family home where we talked and talked and made plov and enjoyed it. His family were so welcoming and loved his sister practicing her English. This is really your chance to get to know Uzbek people. Ali will talk about anything! His English is impeccable. This is likely the highlight experience of all my time in Uzbekistan.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! It was a real pleasure to spend time with you and share not just our food, but also stories and laughs. I'm especially happy to hear you felt welcomed by my family — they always enjoy meeting new people! I'm honored this experience was a highlight of your time in Uzbekistan. You're always welcome back — our door is open! By the way, you are invited to my wedding, so I hope to see you again soon ))

Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Samarkand.

How much does Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House cost?

+

Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Samarkand usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House take?

+

Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Samarkand is not rushed.

Is Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Samarkand, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4.5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Samarkand can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Samarkand and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Plov Cooking Class at Local Uzbek House start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Samarkand within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Samarkand?

+

On Outty we rank every Samarkand experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include A City Tour Of Samarkand: The Pearl Of The East, Private Samarkand City Tour with Transport: Inside Attractions, Seven Lakes Day Tour from Samarkand (Private & Group Options). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Samarkand?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Samarkand?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
