Insanely over priced. Use an uber instead!

This cost nearly $600 USD for two people! An Uber to Samobor from Zagreb only costs €40-50 euro each way. It was snowing, which wasn’t ideal. So we couldn’t visit the castle ruins. Cake was tasty. Guide was friendly and informative. However, even if the weather was nice I cannot see how $300 USD is justified in the cost. Should’ve included lunch and wine for that price point as well as a comfortable big car. We were in a small taxi. You can do the same trip with Uber, buy your own cake, and google the history of Croatia for a 1/2 of the price. Do not recommend - save your money. Maybe worth it for $100 usd/person but certainly NOT $300/person.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your very detailed review — we genuinely appreciate the time you took to analyze our business model so thoroughly 😊 First, we must apologize for one thing clearly beyond our control: the snow. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, we are still unable to influence weather conditions. Our weather-control department is underfunded — most of the budget goes to booking platform commissions (more on that below). We also agree with you on one important point: the price is high. What often isn’t visible to guests is that a significant portion of that price does not go to the local agency, driver, or guide at all, but to the booking platform as commission. Sadly, we don’t receive anywhere near $300 per person — we receive the survivor’s share after everyone else takes their cut. Regarding transportation: yes, Uber can take you to Samobor. It can also smile politely, share local history, wait for you, adapt the itinerary, and answer questions — oh wait, that’s the guide. Google is also an excellent historian, though it rarely notices if you’re cold, lost, or holding cake. We’re happy you enjoyed the cake and found the guide friendly and informative — at least the human parts of the tour worked as intended. We absolutely respect your recommendation to travelers who prefer full DIY experiences. For guests who value guided storytelling, organization, time-saving, and local expertise (plus cake), this tour still finds its audience — even in the snow. We fully respect that this tour was not the right fit for you, but we also stand by the many guests who recognized it as a positive experience and a fair value for what was provided. Wishing you smooth travels and many sunny trips ahead ☀️ The Management (still negotiating with the weather) P.S. It’s possible that the $600 figure you mentioned reflected the cost if the tour had been booked for three people. When you changed to two people, the price dropped by roughly one-third — though again, this is not the amount the agency actually receives, as most of the cost goes to the booking platform’s commission.

    Samobor: lovely gem

We had a lovely time visiting the beautiful little village of Samobor. The guide/driver was excellent company and we had a great time. Was interesting to hear about the history of the castle and the walk through the town was enjoyable. Coffee and cake was yummy. Thanks a million for the great guy you sent our way

Great tour to do when staying in Zagreb.

We had a great tour to Samobor. Our guide was really knowledgeable and friendly and could answer all my husband's many questions about life past and present in Croatia. We enjoyed seeing the castle ruins and then walking down into the town. He made everything interesting. We had a delicious local cake and coffee in a charming hotel. It was nice to see a more rural town than Zagreb and to leave the city behind for a while. Very good tour and great guide.

Response from the operator: With these words, you make us proud as we accomplished our purpose - to ensure you enjoy the tour :) It was a pleasure to have you in Samobor and to show you some of the hidden gems nearby Zagreb. Thanks for the kind words and review because it means a lot to us. All the best from Servus Team

Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Zagreb.

How much does Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $123 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Zagreb usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Zagreb is not rushed.

Is Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Zagreb, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Zagreb can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Zagreb and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Picturesque Samobor & Samobor Castle Half-day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Zagreb within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Zagreb?

    +

On Outty we rank every Zagreb experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communism & Croatian Homeland War Tour, Zagreb Highlights: Old Town, WWII tunnels, Funicular & Tastings, Old Zagreb Private Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Zagreb?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Zagreb?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
