Great Battlefields trip with an excellent and knowledgeable guide.

We contacted Don of DayToursKzn and he responded very promptly and proposed a tour, the itinerary of which was exactly what we were looking for. The pricing and what was included was clearly laid out so there no unexpected extras! The vehicle was clean and comfortable and given the roads in the Battlefields area was very much required. Don himself was also very personable and certainly knew his stuff and managed to bring the events of over 120 years ago to life. An experience we will never forget. We also enjoyed his recommended overnight guest house. We also did a one day Midlands Meander with Don - again tailored to our desire- namely a visit to a winery. Another excellent day out.

If you're off to Spion Kop then Don's your man

For research purposes I needed to visit the Spion Kop battlefield, surrounding historical sights and the Ladysmith Siege Museum and I made the perfect choice with Don Botterill. He picked my up at my Durban hotel, gave me a full rundown on South African history on the way up to Spion Kop and once on the hill his knowledge of, and passion for, the subject was second to none. He was also great company and a lovely fella. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Response from the operator: It was great taking a genuine "Kopite" to Spioenkop and reliving the tales of bravery and tragedy Spioenkop. Thank you for choosing me Brian.

Fantastic Trip to Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift

What a great Zulu Wars battlefield tour. Don is a friendly and easy person to spend time with. He cares about the people who are with him and tries at all times to ensure they are getting the most out of the experience and the excellent accommodation. His knowledge is exceptional and he knows how to get it across. Being in the locations and seeing these combined with Don’s explanation of what occurred, where and when was perfect. I shall never forget the Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift experience it was worth the 10 hour flight from the UK for this alone! I would recommend this tour without any reservations, even if you are not a die hard historian. Many thanks Don. We had a fantastic time, worth every penny !

Response from the operator: Thanks so much for the review. I'm so happy that you enjoyed oiur tour.

Seniors tour of KZN

So lucky to find Don who tailored a tour for us that gave us everything we asked for and more. He collected us from the airport at Durban gave us a Durban tour that was filled with stories, took us to St Lucia, hippo spotting, organised accommodation that suited us perfectly and then took us to the battlefields. Of course, there his expertise was superb. We stayed in a unique and beautiful lodge, and from there he took us to Jo’burg airport. Dealing with Don was friendly and efficient, he listens carefully to your needs and goes to no end of trouble to give you a tour you will never forget. We can’t recommend him highly enough.

Two day tour Zulu war battlefields

Don was highly recommended and he lived up to his reputation entirely. We had a great trip to a couple of the Zulu war battlefields and enjoyed Don’s extensive knowledge. He took us to sites that I had not anticipated seeing and this thoroughly enhanced our experience. Don took care of everything including accommodation at Elandsview lodge which was an incredible surprise. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Don is personable, understanding and takes total care of his guests. As a Saffer who used to live near Don’s home, it was like meeting an old friend. We were quite sad to say goodbye to him. Would definitely use his services again.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much guys for your review and I am so pleased that you enjoyed our time together.

Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal.: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Durban.

How much does Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal. cost?

+

Prices start at $3800 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Durban usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal. take?

+

Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Durban is not rushed.

Is Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal. worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Durban, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal.?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal. suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 48-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal.?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Durban can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Durban and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Personalised Battlefield and Historical tours of KZ Natal. start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Durban within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Durban?

+

On Outty we rank every Durban experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Culture Walking Tour of Durban, Sani Pass & Lesotho 4x4 Experience Day Tour from Durban, Discover Rorkes Drift on our Day Tour from Durban. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Durban?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Durban?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
