What you'll see and do

  1. Patan

As the tour starts, you will be picked up from the hotel. Then proceed for a day excursion to Patan and Modhera. You will be driven towards Patan, an ancient fortified city established in 745 AD by Vanraj Chavda of the Chavda Kingdom. The city is famous for its Patola Weaving. Patola or Double Ikkat from this region of Gujarat glorifies the ancient heritage of India in fine textile. This art of weaving dates back to centuries and lures the connoisseur of fine textiles. This art of weaving features no reverse sides and features equal design and intensity of colors on both the sides. The paintings in Ajanta caves resemble the tie-dye technique of Patola. According to legends, sometimes around the 12th century AC, 700 families of Patola weavers from Jalna (South Maharashtra) were invited by King Kumarpal of Solanki dynasty to settle down in Patan in North Gujarat. The Salvi family is one of them who continues this traditional art and has preserved the heritage art from four generations.

  2. Rani Ki vav

Also, visit the Rani ki Vav – a stepwell in Patan which is a perfect example of the subterranean architecture in Gujarat. It has steps that lead down to the water level of the well. The stepwell was constructed by Queen Udayamti of the Solanki dynasty. The Rani ki Vav represents the finest Indian architecture and forms a link between the classical step-well and a kunda. Apart from the straight staircase, the stepwell also features lateral staircases, along with very broad and stepped corridors.

  3. Sun Temple

Later continue your drive to Modhera. The village of Modhera is home to the Sun temple, one of the finest exemplar of the Indian style of architecture that existed during its period. Built during the 1062 A.D., the Sun Temple is made in honor of the Hindu Sun-God, Surya. The temple stands high on a plinth that overlooks a deep stone-steeped tank. A masterpiece in itself, the edifice is magnificently carved with Gods and Goddesses, birds, beasts and flowers. The temple was constructed by King Bhimdev I, (1026-27) and draws inspiration from the famous Sun Temple of Konark, Orissa and predates it only by 200 years. Alike the Konark Sun Temple, the Sun Temple at Modhera is designed in such a way so that the dawn sun shone on the image of the sun God, at the time of the equinoxes. The main shrine and hall of the complex can be reached through a pillared porch. Just like the temple of Somnath, this temple was also ruined by Mohamed of Ghazni.

Beautiful Architectur, but very poorly maintained facilities

there was lots of garbage, the well water seemed no one cared for the heritage. the complex guards were trying their best to make sure people would not climb on the parapets and run around. but certain visitors think they know better and would just not listen

Response from the operator: Dear Jay, We understand your concern and this worries us too. We will definitely take the message to the relevant authorities as well. We thank you for sharing your feedback with us and hope that you will try our other tours in the future. Regards, Team GeTS

An awe-inspiring trip

A trip to Modhera and Patan is an amazing experience. The Sun temple at Modhera is more than a thousand years old and is based on the knowledge of the movement of the Sun and the planets. It is very well designed and beautifully structured. It is one of the most attractive structures I have ever seen. Similarly, the stepwell at Patan is breath taking. The carvings are fantastic and it is also an engineering marvel. One can spend hours at these two places just taking in the splendor and artistry. The stop at the patola factory in Patan is also quite informative. Overall, this tour, though somewhat long, is highly recommended. I was impressed with the guide provided by Getsholidays for this trip.

Response from the operator: Dear Yogesh, Thank you for sharing your review with us here. We are glad to know that you had a great time exploring Patan and Modhera with us. Your appreciation really means a lot and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Warm Regards, Team GeTS Holidays

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ahmedabad?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
