About this experience

This is more than just following a recipe — it’s about being part of the process from start to finish. At The Kitchen, you’ll learn by doing, feeling the textures, working the dough, and watching your Pastéis de Nata come out of the oven golden and warm. There’s a natural balance between learning and enjoying the moment. You’ll be focused when it matters, but there’s always space to relax, chat, and share the experience with others around you. We keep the atmosphere small, welcoming, and hands-on, so everyone is involved and comfortable throughout the class. And then, of course, comes the question we hear all the time: “Can we save them for tomorrow?” Our answer is always the same — these are the best Pastéis de Nata you’ll have, because you made them yourself… so eat them fresh. If you feel like having more tomorrow, you already know what to do — make them again. That’s exactly how we want you to leave The Kitchen: confident, proud, and already thinking about the next batch.

Great time baking with Jo!

Fantastic time baking pastel de nata. Jo was warm, funny, hospitable and made our experience thoroughly enjoyable! The whole family loved it!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely words! ❤️ I had such a wonderful time baking with your family too! I’m so happy you enjoyed the laughs, the atmosphere and, of course, making your own Pastéis de Nata. I hope you’ll bake them together again at home — and please send us some photos when you do! Incredible Cooking Class

My sister and I were so excited to find a cooking class while we were holidaying in Lagos. When we arrived we were greeted so warmly by Fabi, and when our chef Jo arrived, it felt like we were ready to bake with old friends. It was a real hands on experience with the whole process of making the pastei de nata and Jo was an excellent teacher. The two hours simply whizzed by and when we got to eat what we made, we felt like we were in heaven. There is nothing like a warm pastei de nata, fresh from the oven to fuel your soul. As soon as we got back to our apartment, the recipe had already been sent to our emails. I highly recommend this cooking class, as we absolutely adored the entire experience. Thank you Jo and Fabi, we will always remember this wonderful experience. Love Rowena and Tracey Brewer (via London and New Zealand)

Response from the operator: Dear Rowena & Tracey, ❤️ Your beautiful words truly touched us! From the moment you arrived, it felt like baking with old friends for us too. Me and Fabi absolutely loved sharing this experience with you. Knowing those warm pastéis brought you so much joy makes us incredibly happy! We hope you’ll bake them together again in London or New Zealand. Muito obrigada! Best wishes, Joana Glória

Incredible experience

We had an amazing time making pastel de natas in this experience. We had a full group but we all got a lot of attention so that everyone’s turned out perfect. We enjoyed learning about the techniques used, and how shop-bought versions differ to homemade ones. We got to make 3 pastel de natas each and of course they all turned out delicious! Definitely recommend this experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for visiting The Kitchen and for joining our Pastel de Nata Baking Class! ❤️ We're delighted to hear you had such an amazing experience. Even with a full class, we always strive to give everyone plenty of individual attention, so we're thrilled your pastéis de nata turned out perfectly! Thank you for appreciating the techniques we shared and the differences between homemade and shop-bought versions. We hope you'll bake them again at home, and if you do, we'd love to see your photos. Thank you so much for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you back to The Kitchen one day! Best wishes, Joana Glória

Fantastic Pastel de Nata Baking Class

We had a wonderful experience at the Pastel de Nata baking class at The Kitchen! Everything was very well organized, the kitchen was spotless, and the small group of only four people created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Our chef was teaching her first class in English, and she did an excellent job. She was very kind, professional, and explained everything clearly. We started the class with a delicious homemade Port wine cocktail, and at the end we enjoyed a small glass of Port wine together while tasting our freshly baked Pastéis de Nata. It was a lovely touch that made the experience even more special. We had a fantastic time and are now excited to bake Pastéis de Nata at home. We would definitely recommend this class to anyone visiting Lagos or Algarve!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for visiting The Kitchen and for joining our Pastel de Nata, Port Wine & Portonic Experience! 😊 We’re absolutely delighted to hear you had such a wonderful time with us. Thank you as well for your kind words about our kitchen, the small group atmosphere and our chef Filipa — we’ll be very happy to share your feedback with her. It means a lot, especially knowing it was her first class in English! We’re so glad you enjoyed the little Port wine touches throughout the class and that they made the experience even more special. We hope you have lots of fun recreating your pastéis de nata at home — and please send us photos when you do! Wishing you a wonderful stay in Portugal, amazing Portuguese food and plenty of Portuguese wine. Best wishes, Joana Glória

Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lagos.

How much does Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart cost?

+

Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lagos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lagos is not rushed.

Is Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 97 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Lagos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart?

+

Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lagos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lagos and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Pastel de Nata Baking Class – Portugal's Famous Custard Tart start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lagos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Lagos?

+

On Outty we rank every Lagos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small-Group Kayak Tour: Magic of Ponta da Piedade, Lagos, Boat trip to the grottos at Ponta da Piedade, Lagos, From Lagos: Kayak Tour of Ponta da Piedade Caves by Boat. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lagos?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lagos?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
